Safe Sport

Cavalier Aquatics Mission and Vision Statement

Developing, educating, and leading the youth in the Charlottesville area following the guidelines set forth by the YMCA and USA Swimming. The safety and well-being of our swimmers is the most important factor in all decisions we make as a club.  Cavalier Aquatics strives to go above and beyond all requirements and expectations from the YMCA, USA Swimming and VA Swimming to provide its swimmers the safest learning environment possible.

In addition to the forms located at the bottom of this page required for joining the team, below are some resources from USA Swimming to help educate you on what's important and what to look for.

If you have any questions on Safe Sport, please contact Cavalier Aquatics team coordinator Jessica Simons:   [email protected] / 434-295-1582

Athlete Protection Education

Parent Training
The USA Swimming Safe Sport Program is proud to offer free Athlete Protection Training to the parents of their member athletes.  Parents are a critical component to USA Swimming's overall goal to protecting children from sexual abuse. The comprehensive online programming includes information about how offenders operate; how to recognize and respond to boundary violations, myths and facts about child sexual abuse and USA Swimming’s Athlete Protection Policies and Procedures.

Athlete Training
USA Swimming has developed a free education program for athlete ages 12-18.
Click HERE to learn about:
  • Inappropriate contact
  • Physical, emotional, and behavioral boundaries
  • What to do if your boundaries are violated
  • Who to tell
  • How USA Swimming can be a resource for you

Parents and athletes are encouraged to take a free Athlete Protection Training Course. The adult course is designed for swim parents to understand the Safe Sport program and their role in working with CYAC to provide a safe, healthy, and positive environment for our swimmers. The course for athletes teaches swimmers how to be a part of Safe Sport, as well as gives education about healthy boundaries and where to take concerns. Please click here for a detailed explanation on how to sign up. For parents registering with USA Swimming for the first time, our LSC is Virginia Swimming, and our club code is CA-Y.
