COVID-19 is caused by a coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. It is spread mainly from person to person, particularly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms can range from mild (or no symptoms) to severe illness.
Everyone is at risk of getting COVID-19. Older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions may be at higher risk for more severe illness.
Practice social distancing
If you must go out, avoid public spaces and keep your distance.
Keep hands clean
Use soap and water for 20 seconds or use 60% alcohol hand sanitizer.
Clean and disinfect
Disinfect frequently touched object and surfaces often.
Stay home when sick
Call your doctor if you have a fever, cough, or shortness of breath.
Don’t spread germs
Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. Cover a cough or sneeze using your elbow.
