Important Swim Team Update for Summer 2021!
As you are aware, the Franklin Glen HOA Board announced that the pool would return to normal operations effective Saturday, May 29th. Given these changes, the Swim Team Board decided that the FG Gators swim team will resume normal operations this summer as well.
The swim team will be lifting all restrictions in alignment with the HOA policies. We will follow the temporary precautions that are in place until June 14th:
- Wear a mask while indoors (checking in and using the restrooms)
- Showers will be closed (Available starting June 14th
Preliminary information was provided during our Information Session on May 10th. To view the slides from that presentation, click here. However, please note the information on this page supersedes any conflicting information on the presentation slides, as this information is the most up-to-date.
The FG Gators swim team is open to all interested swimmers between the ages of 5 and 18 who are residents of Franklin Glen. Only those participants comfortable in a group swim setting and who have the maturity and attention span required to ensure the safety of all swimmers will be admitted to the program.
The philosophy of the Franklin Glen Gators Swim Team is to provide a positive swimming program that will:
· Develop self-esteem, confidence, and a sense of personal achievement for each swimmer by teaching sound swimming mechanics and techniques.
· Develop team spirit by teaching discipline, individual responsibility, and commitment.
We hope to provide our swimmers with an opportunity to improve their swimming skills and exercise in a safe environment.
Families that have already registered for swim team will be receiving notifications via email directly from the team. If you have not registered yet but are still interested in participating, registration is still open and we are extending our standard registration period by one week, to June 5th. A $20 late fee will apply after June 5th. Just go to www.fggators.org and click “Register”.
Our primary forms of communications with you are this website, email, and the Gators Facebook page. Please carefully read any emails you receive as they contain important information.
2021 Swimsuits - This year Cassel's won't be hosting a team sizing event; instead, you must order a suit online through a special Cassel's team link HERE. This site will only be available until May 31st. Orders will not be processed until May 31st; a bulk order will be placed at that time (which allows us to receive their bulk order discount) and takes approximately 2 weeks to arrive. Please note Cassel's will not offer returns or refunds. If you need to check your swimmer's suit size, you may do so at Cassel's during their regular operating hours. When the swimsuits arrive, we will notify you where to pickup your suit(s).
2021 Swim Coaches
Coach Chelsea Rowell will be joining us for her first season as Head Coach.
Coaches Miranda Schuman and Zaria Stovall will be joining us as Assistant Coaches.
Coach Simon Rothleder will be joining us as Head of Gatoraides.
Coach Arun Sheanh will be joining us as Junior Coach.
By returning to normal operations, we will be reinstating the Junior Gators program this summer. The goal of the Junior Gator program is to keep all Gators safe in the water, build confidence, and manage the developmental needs of our newest swimmers. Swimmers that pass the swim test but do not meet the qualification times at Time Trials to be a competitive Gator will be eligible to participate in our Junior Gator program. Please see the Gator handbook for additional information, when available.
The 2021 Gator swim team season kicks off on June 1st! Swim team practices will be held after school daily from Tuesday, June 1st through Friday, June 11th. After school practice times are as follows; swimmers should attend the practice that corresponds with their age on June 15th.
4:00 pm – 4:45 pm 13 & over
4:45 pm – 5:30 pm New 8 & Under (for those aged 8 & under that are new to the team)
5:30 pm – 6:15 pm Returning 8 & Under
6:15 pm – 7:00 pm 9 & 10 year-olds
7:00 pm – 7:45 pm 11 & 12 year-olds
Please note that the pool will be closed during swim team practices and no one will be allowed in the water except swimmers who are in their practice session.
Once school is out, practices will move to the mornings. Morning practices begin on Monday, June 14th and continue through Friday, July 23rd. Morning practice times are as follows:
8:00 am - 9:00 am 13 & Over
8:50 am - 9:45 am 11 & 12 year-olds
9:35 am - 10:30 am 9 & 10 year-olds
10:20 am - 11:15 am 8 & Under
Time Trials are scheduled for Saturday, June 12th at 8:00am. Time Trials is a practice meet for all Gators so that swimmers understand how swim meets work and for them to obtain legal times for the Swim Ladder. All children interested in being on the swim team and participating in Time Trials must pass the Franklin Glen Pool swim test by Friday, June 11th.
Parents are required to be present for swimmers ages 8 and under, and are permitted to attend practice for other ages. Siblings of swimmers ages 8 and under may accompany a parent while their child is in practice, as needed for child care purposes.
At the end of practice, swimmers will need to leave the pool area (with all their gear). There will be no lifeguards on duty during practices, only the coaches who are all lifeguard certified. However, their attention will be focused on the practice session at the time, and will not supervise your swimmers beyond their designated practice times. If you as a parent are at the pool with a child not in a practice session (due to siblings in other practices), you are solely responsible for supervising your child that is not practicing.
Positive COVID-19 Test Procedure
Should a swimmer or coach test positive for COVID-19, the following measures will take place:
- The individual should let the swim team president (Benjy Wilhelm - [email protected]) know immediately.
- The individual will not be allowed back to practice until they have been cleared in accordance with Fairfax County Health Department guidelines.
- Contact tracing will be performed by the Fairfax County Health Department and a decision regarding affected team events and practices will be based on Health Department guidance.
Symptoms or Family Member/Close Contact with Symptoms
- If your unvaccinated swimmer or an unvaccinated family member/close contact of an unvaccinated swimmer has any symptoms of COVID-19, as defined by the CDC, we ask that you stay home and not attend practice/meets until a negative COVID-19 test has been received for the individual with symptoms.
- Please refer to the Fairfax County Health Department guidelines here for further information.
