Fall 2020 SwimGym Practices

Fall 2020 October SwimGym Practice Information

(October 12-31, 2020)

CORE 44 Fitness- Wyandotte: 5198 Riding Club Lane, Columbus Ohio 43213

Program Content

Conditioning and training will be achieved through creative "Swim" training on dry land. Start, turn, finish, pull-out, stroke & kick technique improvement all will be the focus of this program. Practices are written to mimic that which our athletes do during in-water training sessions with staff members there to improve the fundamentals of the athletes in each of these areas. Other topics such as race strategy, pace work, breathing patterns and all are also covered during these sessions. Mirrors, videos, individual demonstrations and more will be used for visual bio-feedback during training sessions.

Special Thanks - Sponsorship Donations

We'd like to take the chance to acknowledge these amazing donations made to GCSTO from Specialty Rolled Metals and from the Funai Corporation.

We'd like to thank Specialty Rolled Metals for become a corporate sponsor of our team. This company donated $7,000 to help insure that we have proper and complete set up of our swim gyms. This donation will pay for all of the mirrors that we will need for on-site attendees to be able to use for visual feedback, the wall mounts that we'll need for bungee cord work, the audio equipment that we will need to insure great audio quality for all attendees, cleaning supplies and more!

We'd also like to thank FUNAI Corporation for donating 6 large screen Android TV's (2 each at 50 inches, 55 inches and 65 inches) which will help us insure greater ability to view (and coach) our virtual attendees. These large size TV's will also be used for viewing of online videos clips of the skills that we will be covering for all attendees and will make these video clips much easier to see for on-site swimmers.

These 2 amazingly generous donations will really help us get this put together well. I will take a few weeks to get in the mirrors now but we can quickly start to put this and everything else together now we have the funds to do so.

Start date is Oct. 12. The schedule is set to go through Oct. 31 unless we start up a pool use schedule before then. If that becomes the case a new schedule for SwimGym will be set to compliment our in-water schedule.

Days & Times

NOTE: The on-site schedule will then be confirmed based on the total number of registrations for on-site participation consolidating the schedule and adjusting times slightly if need be (time adjustments should not be more than 20-30 minutes either way).

There is a $15 manual registration fee to enroll in this program for October. Those not currently USA Swimming (USAS) members will need to pay the $20 USAS Flex Membership fee as well. You will then be charged an hourly fee for the times that you reserved (in your email sent to coach Nye to reserve that time after you register). You will be manually invoiced for the time that you reserve upon acceptance into the program and after receipt of your registration email. In order to account for schedule changes once in-water practices begin you will not be charged for your reserved times until Nov. 1. That will allow for invoicing adjustments due to scheduling changes once in-water practices begin. This also allows for automatic billing of your accounts instead of each individual account needing to be manually pushed through each time.

Virtual Attendance 1-3 practices per week $4.50 per hour
4 or more practices per week $4 per hour
On-Site Attendance 1-3 practices per week $6.50 per hour
4 or more practices per week $6 per hour

Clothing & Equipment Needs

All Athletes: Tennis shows, shorts or sweatpants, T-shirts, water bottles & a towel

Level 4 & 5: Stretch cords* (black or blue), other TBA

Level 2 & 3: Stretch cords (yellow)*, light wrist weights (1-2lbs max), equal weight cans of food or small dumbbells (1lb max)

Novice & Level 1: Stretch cords (yellow)*, equal weight cans of food or small dumbbells (1lb max)

* - These can be purchased through coach Nye. They are $7 each. You simply need to email coach Nye to get a set for your athlete if you are in Novice, Level 1, 2 or 3. Level 4 & 5 athletes need to contact coach Chris Binting for a set. These cords need to be individually tailored to your athlete's size so that will be done on-site upon delivery to CORE44 or PIM. You may arrange pick-up from one of these facilities or from coach Nye's house in the event that you are doing all virtual participation.

SwimGym Registration Information

#1 - When registering, you will be committing for your reserved slots from the time we start up (projected to be Oct. 12) until Oct. 31 or until such time as we start up our pool use schedule prior to that date. If that becomes the case you will be committing to this SwimGym schedule only until that pool start up date. Once in-water practices begin a new SwimGym schedule will be developed to compliment our in-water schedule and registrations will be be set up for that new SwimGym schedule. Note that once we do set up a pool schedule it will more than likely involve limited numbers of practices per week so your group will have a combination of in-water practices and SwimGym practices (the latter of which will be considered as part of your training regime and therefore simply included in your swim fees for that session however long that is designed).

#2 - USAS Membership fees are required to participate in this program. As such, new members to the sport of USA Swimming will be charged a 2020/2021 USAS Flex Membership Fee of $20 in order to be properly registered and insured with the team. Athletes currently registered with USAS will not be charged any type of USAS Registration Fee at this time.

Novice, Level 1, 2 or 3 Swimmers: You’ll see the day and time guidelines for your groups. However, if there are other times/days that you could secondarily make that may not be specific to your group that is still with one of the younger groups (Novice thru Level 3) you may request those in the event that we do not fill up with those from the primary levels.

Level 4 & 5 Swimmers: Basic priority will go to the level listed first but if you see a time that might be better for you on the days you’ll be offered practices feel free to ask for that time as a secondary option if you would like (example: for carpool reasons). If we don’t fill up with the primary group listed then we can get you into those times if you’d like.

Level 3 Swimmers: With permission you may do virtual attendance with any one of the Level 4 practices and could request permission to do on-site training with Level 4 if one of their practices does not fill up with on-site attendees.

Once you register online for the session you will then email Steve Nye at stevenye@sbcglobal.net providing me with your athlete’s name, level, location, day and time preference for practices along with whether you would be attending virtually or on-site. Each aspect of this information is important so please provide it all. Receipt of your email will be sent back to you within 24 hours.
