The Swimathon will be Trails Swim Team's primary fundraiser for the year and is essential to our program so that we can continue to provide a healthy, safe outlet for the Algonquin area youth. As a non-profit organization, the registration dues we charge our families are only part of the money required to cover all the operational costs of our team each year, which is even more evident now. Funds from this event directly benefit all of our hardworking athletes across all ages and abilities, particularly to pay for the pool time and staff. It is vital that each and every family helps the club to not only survive but thrive this year and next!
The Finances. The Trails Swim Team has been operating at a deficit for a few years. As a nonprofit, we keep registration reasonable and give all funds back to the swimmers. Last year, due to Covid, the team lost $4300. The rising cost of facility rental, plus operating expenses and insurance, while being unable to host our annual Invitational due to facility restrictions, have forced us to trim the budget in order to get the kids in the pool this summer. Our biggest annual expense is the facility rental of the pool. We are so thankful for the Village of Algonquin, which has negotiated with the team a generous one-year contract at a reduced rate. Other annual expenses include coaching staff salaries and club insurance. In order to keep pricing accessible for swimmers especially in a year when so many have gone without such opportunities, we are asking for your assistance in raising money for the club through the Swimathon.
The Raffle. The raffle at the Invitational was always a huge hit! In order to keep the tradition and motivate our athletes and families to meet fundraising goals, Trails will have raffle basket prizes with gift cards for athletes. The Grand Prize is for two swimmers to each take a friend on a bike ride to Dairy Queen in Dundee for ice cream with the team coaches!
Our Goal. The Trails Swim team goal is a minimum of $100 per family or $8000 minimum to meet our scaled back budget for the year. Share with friends and family! Athletes are encouraged to be involved! Remember, all donations are tax deductible.
