Coaches Bios

At HYB, our coaches are the backbone of our team - providing instruction, guidance, motivation, and encouragement to swimmers in all levels of our program.

Interim Head Coach: Eve A. Brown

Competitive swimming and coaching have been a constant throughout my life. I began club swimming for the Marlins upstate, in Orange County where I grew up, as an 8&under and continued until age 17, along with 6 varsity seasons with Monroe-Woodbury HS.  Swimming continued for me in college as a 4-year member of the Blue Wave team at SUNY Geneseo. I won the 200 fly at SUNYACS my senior year and received Geneseo’s Best Female Athlete Award.

I began my corporate career in NYC after graduation and worked a combined 12 years in publicity for Random House, Inc., public relations for Exude fitness company, and community relations for both the NBA League Office and NY Jets.

Coaching became my second act after exiting the corporate world.  I spent 10 years coaching the boys/girls middle school and high school varsity teams for Cold Spring Harbor CSD and local summer teams in Huntington as I raised my family.

I have been with HYB for nearly three years, initially as an age group coach for Blue and Bronze. I am currently the Silver Group coach and Interim Head Coach.

I live in Huntington with my husband Scott, daughter Petra (18), son Blake (16), and our beagle Lucy.

Age Group Coach and YMCA Aquatic Director: Ed Ryan

I started teaching swim lessons for the Farmingdale Youth Council when I was 13 years old. I swam on both the Farmingdale Swim Club and the high school team.  I qualified for the All County team in the 200 free my junior year. I swam at the University of Buffalo in my sophomore year.

My coaching career began at age 18 with my local town team in Massapequa. I spent 2 years with that team. I then returned to my USA club team at Farmingdale and spent 5 years there. I moved on to Deer Park Aquatics, and then started my own team at SUNY- Farmingdale called University Swimming. Went to Lindenhurst Swim Club (along with Coach Kirkland), and then joined my friend’s team at Hofstra as part of Long Island Express. Along the way I have coached numerous teams on the south shore for summer seasons and spent one year with the Northport Yacht Club.

After being hired as the aquatic director here at the Huntington YMCA, I wanted to have the opportunity to help out at HYB. It has been my pleasure to work primarily with the Blue team. I am enjoying helping our newest swimmers learn this sport and teach them some lifelong skills.

My home is in Lindenhurst with my wife Ruth, daughter Emily (also a swimmer), my son Thomas (swimmer and martial arts student), and our five dogs.

Age Group Coach: Meg McConnell

Coach Meg is happy to be back coaching the Bluefish. A Bluefish alum herself she has great memories of her ten years of practices at the Y, Dix Hills and Bethpage HS--as well as the various competition pools--and has several lifelong friends from the team.

Meg also swam 6 years of varsity for Huntington HS before heading to the College of Holy Cross where she swam, played water polo, and, as a junior, began diving to fill a void in the team. After graduating in ’89, she returned to teaching and coaching swimming & diving at the summer club she’d been at for several years. By mid summer she had signed on to be Assistant Varsity coach at HHS and then joined the staff of the Bluefish. Meg obtained her MA in Secondary Ed from Hofstra in ’93, while continuing to enjoy coaching both HYB and the two HHS teams. As her family started to grow, Meg had to step away from coaching a year-round team but she has continued with the HS programs and was able to run a nighttime diving program for a few years.

Meg and her husband Dan have loved living here in Huntington and raising their four children - Kelly, Brian, Kevin, & Matthew - in the place they grew up. Now that their youngest is finishing college, Meg is glad to be able to be back with the team that was such a tremendous part of her childhood and truly impacted the person she is today!

Age Group Coach: Thomas Ostuni

As a member of the Huntington YMCA aquatics staff for the last four years, Coach Thomas brings his love of sport and his passion for swimming to the youngest of our HYB Bluefish.  "Coaching the Blue group is very rewarding for me," he said.  "It allows me the opportunity to teach the fundamentals and techniques of swimming to young swimmers, helping them to build confidence and a strong foundation for success in the water as they begin their journey in competitive swim."

In addition to coaching for HYB, Thomas is a lifeguard at the YMCA, ensuring the health and safety of all members.  He is also a swim instructor who teaches group swim classes and gives private lessons to learners of all ages, looking to learn how to swim or enhance their individual swimming abilities.

When not coaching, Thomas can often be found cheering on his daughter Lia, who is also an HYB Bluefish!

Age Group Coach: Natalie Morse

Hi everyone! My name is Natalie Morse and I am a coach for the Blue and Bronze groups. I am so excited to be starting with HYB this year!

I was a competitive swimmer for 14 years. I first started swimming with the Woodlin Club’s summer league team in the summer of 2008. In the fall of 2008, I began swimming with the Schenectady Saratoga Swim Club. I swam with the Sharks from 2008-2017, when I graduated from high school. While swimming for the Sharks, I had the opportunity to swim at meets like Eastern Zones, Speedo Sectionals, and Futures. I would not have been able to do this without the guidance of my coach, Jerry Adams.

From the Sharks, I was recruited to swim Division I at Wagner College, in Staten Island, NY. At Wagner, I honed my swimming skills and had the opportunity to swim and compete at a high level against talented competition.
Throughout my career, I had the opportunity to run swim camps, assist in coaching younger groups, and teach swim lessons to many children, in hopes that they love the sport as much as I do.

Since graduating from Wagner in 2021, I have began teaching in the South Huntington UFSD, and hope to continue coaching for many years to come.
