Moraga Ranch belongs to the nine-member Orinda-Moraga Pools Association (OMPA). Our swim programs include the following:
Spring clinics begin in early April, and are offered to all members of Moraga Ranch (including those who are not signed up for swim team). For more information, click here.
Swim Team (includes Spring & Summer Programs)
Our Piranhas swim team has 6 age groups: 6 & Under, 7/8s, 9/10s, 11/12s, 13/14s and 15-18s, corresponding to the age group divisions in the OMPA league. A swimmer's competitive age is determined by his/her age on June 15th of the current year. Practice groups generally match these competitive age groups, but sometimes when we have one or more particularly large age groups additional pool time will be allotted and the group(s) split by skill level and experience.
Pre-season practice begins in early May, and is held in the afternoons after school. Our summer practice schedule kicks in after school is out. During the regular season, the team competes in swim meets generally twice a week with teams from other OMPA clubs or area non-league teams. The season ends with a league-wide, OMPA championship swim meet that is the highlight of the season for swim team members and their families. Some swimmers will participate in the Contra Costa County championship swim meet that usually occurs later in August. Additional information is available here.
Moraga Ranch offers a Mini Piranhas program for our youngest children (generally ages 4-6) who are working up to swimming the full length of the pool. The Minis season begins in mid-June and runs early weekday afternoons, for about 6 weeks. For information (including guidance on Minis vs. 6 & Under!), click here.
Ranch coaches offers swim lessons in the Spring and Summer for swim team members. Additional information is available here.
