Swim Groups

The Liverpool Jets Swim Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels.  It is the goal of the Liverpool Jets Swim Club to offer specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Summer Learn to Swim

We offer seven different levels of swimming lessons to accomodate a wide range of abilities from the true beginner hitting the water for the first time to those swimmers looking to perfect their technique and improve their endurance.  Minimum age requirement: 4 years old prior to the start of the lesson.  Click here for more information.  (Contact the Liverpool Central School Distict for information regarding lessons during the school year.)

Pre-Competitive Swim Camp

Our swim camps are designed to introduce swimmers between the ages of 6 and 14 to the wonderful world of competitive swimming.  These camps help bridge the gap between lessons and our swim team.  Camps are typically offered in the end of July and Mid-December.  The JETS are also happy to assist with April's "Go Swim" clinic run by the Liverpool School District's scholastic coaches.  Click here to travel to our swim camp informational page.   http://www.teamunify.com/SubTabGeneric.jsp?team=nijets&_stabid_=46010

Developmental

The Developmental Level is our entry-level training group.  As a prerequisite, all swimmers entering this level should have completed level 4 in our lesson program OR have the ability to swim 25 yards freestyle and 25 yards backstroke.  Although this level will primarily consist of athletes between the ages of 6-10 years of age, an athlete’s ability will play a large role in their placement.

The primary focus of this level is to introduce new athletes to the sport of competitive swimming and prepare them for successful participation with our year-round Age Group training program.  In the Developmental Level, swimmers will have the opportunity to learn all four competitive strokes and turns to USA Swimming standards, as well as how and why to perform stroke drills.  Combined daily with fun, this plan can begin to develop the well-adjusted student-athlete-citizen the Liverpool Jets Swim Club seeks to promote.

The Developmental level consists of three 9-week sessions offered in the fall, winter, and summer.  The practice schedule will have 3 to 4 one-hour practices per week.  Swimmers are encouraged to attend 3 practices per week for best results.  Click here for registration material and more details.

 Age Group

The primary focus of this group is to build off of the foundation established in our Developmental level.  A training component is added to practice sessions as the athletes continue to develop their techniques in the four competitive strokes.  A very large emphasis is placed on training these swimmers in all four strokes as well as developing strong kicks.  While competition begins to play a more active role in this level, the primary goal is to continue to develop solid technique and training habits.  Athletes will start to  develop a relationship between the effort put in during training and the results seen at meets.

The Age Group training program operates throughout the year from September to August.  While ability determines placement, athletes in this group are typically between the ages of 9 and 14.  The practice schedule for this level usually includes 4 to 5 one and a half hour practices per week including some dry-land training.  Athletes beginning this level are encouraged to attend 3 practices per week and to progress to 5 practices as the experience level increases.  Click here to find out more information on how to get started in this level.

Junior Group

The primary focus of the Junior Training group is to introduce a more advanced training regimen for the swimmers.  Fine-tuning the biomechanics of their strokes and preserving techinique as training is intensified becomes the goal of this group.  While these swimmers attend workouts to see friends and have fun, they are mostly there, however, because they have begun to develop a long-range plan for their swimming success.  Junior Level swimmers are introduced to race strategy and as well as a more formal approach to goal-setting.

Junior group practices are scheduled alongside our Senior training group.  Through the majority of the year, 5 to 6 two-hour practices are scheduled per week.  Swimmers in this group are encouraged to attend 4 to 5 of these practices depending on age, ability, and the size of the role swimming plays into their lifestyle.  Dry-land training is typically added twice a week.

Senior Group

Senior Level swimmers have chosen a lifestyle which places swimming as a very high priority.  They have chosen to remove other distractions from their lives so that they can look to achieve their potential in the water.  These swimmers have already demonstrated success in competion and need to be provided a challenging, well-organized training regimen in order to reach their long and short-term goals.  Senior Level swimmers begin to tie in the emotional, mental, and physical aspects of swimming to achieve success.  They understand that hard work is necessary and desirable if one plans on achieving a higher level of swimming success.  Senior Level swimmers fully understand the notion and the power of delayed gratification.  They realize that continued progress takes months of commitment.

The Senior Level practice schedule includes 6-9 training sessions per week.  Senior group swimmers are expected to maintain a 90% attendance rate.  While some dry-land is continued, many of our Senior swimmers will look to enhance their swimming careeer through outside dry-land training programs at area gyms or personal trainers.

Masters

This program is designed to assist adults, 18-99 years of age, with varying abilities and aquatic goals.  For those looking to compete in a triathlon, our training methods will improve overall swimming endurance while using technique modification to produce a more efficient swimming stroke.  For those looking for improved fitness, we will look to create a progressive training regimen that will allow members to improve at their own individual pace.  And of course, for those athletes that are looking to get back in to competition (or to start their competitive careers), there are swimming competitions that are available as well through USA Masters Swimming.

The Masters program typically runs from December to August.  Practices are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:30-7:00am.  Click here for more information.
