How do I know if my son/daughter is ready to begin?
As a pre-requisite, athletes looking to join our program need to be able to complete 25 yards freestyle (front crawl) and 25 yards backstroke.  Typically, young swimmers that have completed Level 4 in our lesson program or who have attended our summer pre-competitive camp are usually able to accomplish this.  If you are not sure, head up to Public Open Swim at LHS to try it out.  Feel free to ask a lifeguard that is on hand for assistance.  If your son/daughter is not able to complete this beginning swimming test, we recommend trying a lesson program first.  The Liverpool Jets run a summer lesson program at LHS.  There is also a lesson program offered by the Liverpool Central School District during the school year.

How do I know what group to start in?
Our program consists of over 120 athletes of various ages and abilities.  To accommodate such a diverse group of swimmers, our club is broken up into 4 training levels: Developmental, Age Group, Junior, and Senior.  The majority of new swimmers under the age of 12 without prior competitive experience will be starting in our Developmental group (DEV on the practice schedule).  If your swimmer does not fit this description, then please contact Head Coach Zac Mekker to assist you with the correct placement.  See Training Group Philosophies for more information.

How do I get started in the DEVELOPMENTAL group?
Our Developmental program offers three 9 to 12-week sessions that offer training 3 days per week for 45 minutes to an hour.  To keep an effective coach-swimmer ratio, each session is capped at 32 swimmers.  Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.  Detailed information regarding the Developmental program and a registration form can be found HERE.  Each session begins with a 2-day trial period.  Registrations are not processed and payments are not deposited until after these two days have been completed.  Parents are welcome to stay and watch during these trial practice sessions.

How do I get started in AGE GROUP or the JUNIOR group?
If your athlete has prior competitive experience, is fluent in all 4 competitive strokes, and is at least 9 years old, they may be ready to begin their membership in a level higher than the Developmental program.  Because these training groups operate on a year-round basis, swimmers beginning here receive a two-week trial period.  This allows our coaching staff the opportunity to evaluate the swimmer and for the swimmer and their family to see if the club fits their interests.  To start a 2-week trial period, please fill out a New Swimmer Trial Application and send it in.  When a spot is available, our coaching staff will be in contact with you to arrange a 2-week trial period.

Can parents watch the trial training sessions?
Parents are certainly welcome to come on in during their athlete's trial period.  After all, it isn't just the athlete that is evaluating our program.  Feel free to ask questions before OR after the training session.  But please do not contact the coach or your athlete during the actual training session.

If you have any questions before then, please feel free to contact Zac Mekker.
