The Maryland Suburban Swim Club offers swim practice and training groups for youth of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Maryland Suburban Swim Club to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities. Click on the group names for more information about the group, swim meets, equipment needed, etc. 

Competitive Programs

Beginner Mini (Ages 9 and under): No swim team experience necessary, meets are optional

  • Requirements: must be able to complete one length freestyle and backstroke with proper technique.
  • Schedule: Mon/Tues/Thurs  6:00-7:00 pm. Pick two days

Competitive Mini (ages 9 and under): Previous swim team experience required and meets are required

  • Requirements: must be able to complete one length of all four strokes with proper technique. Must have introductory knowledge of diving and flip turns.
  • Schedule: Mon/Wed/Fri, OR Tues/Thurs/Fri  6:00 - 7:00 PM

Age Group 1 (ages 9-13+):  No swim team experience necessary; meets at coach’s discretion

  • Requirements: must be able to complete 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke with proper stroke technique.
  • Schedule:
    • Full year program ( Sept thru May)- Mon/Wed 5:00- 6:00 PM,  AND Friday 7-8 PM 
    • OR Series program
      • Tues/Wed/Thurs/Fri (pick 3 nights, one must be Friday) 7:00 - 8:00 PM 
      • Fall Series (Sept – Nov)
      • Spring Series (Mar– May)

Age Group 2 (ages 9 -18): Previous swim team experience preferred; swim meets optional.

  • Requirements: must able to complete 50 yards of each stroke with proper stroke technique and reasonable competency. Must be able to dive properly and complete a freestyle and backstroke flipturn.
  • Schedule:  Mon/Wed/Fri OR Tues/Thur/Fri.
    • Early time 4:00 -5:30 PM
    • Late time 5:30 -7:00 PM.

Advanced Training Groups: by invitation; swim meets required.
Juniors (9-13+)

  • Mon - Fri, 5:30 -7:00 PM, Saturdays 7:30 - 9:30 AM (minimum attendance is 4 days/week, one of which must be Saturday).
  • Dryland TBD

Seniors (14+)

  • Mon - Fri, 4:00 -6:00 PM, Saturdays 7:30 - 9:30 AM (minimum attendance is 5 days/week, one of which must be Saturday).
  • Dryland on deck T/Th 6:00 -6:30 PM
  • Gym training 3/x week following orientation

Stroke Clinic (age 8 and older): no swim team experience necessary.

  • Requirements: must be able to complete one length freestyle and backstroke with proper stroke technique.
  • Schedule
    • Friday nights 7-8 PM:
      • Fall Series (Sept – Dec)
      • Winter Series (Jan - Mar) 
      • Spring Series (March – May)
    • Sunday nights 6-7 PM:
      • Fall Series (Sept - Nov)
      • Spring Series (March - May)

Pre-team (8 and under)

  • Requirements: must be able to complete a front and back float for 15 seconds, must be able to push of the wall and swim independently (with face in the water) for at least 10 yards.
  • Schedule: Sunday evenings only, 1/2 hour instruction
    • ​Fall Series (Sept – Nov)
    • Spring Series (March – May)
