Welcome to our Springfield Family Y's Competitive Swim Team!

Welcome to our Springfield Family YMCA Swim Team sometimes know as SPY. We are the competitive swimming program offering seasonal and annual participation for Clark County and surrounding counties. Our team has a special blend of Y Values and training for every child in an enriching atmosphere so each swimmer has the opportunity to reach their best possible potential. Not every child will become an Olympian, or even a collegiate swimmer; however, we believe that with support and guidance, every child can develop to his or her highest potential both in and out of the pool. Therefore, the objectives of our SPY program include:

  • To provide appropriate level of training and competition for all SPY swimmers
  • To provide an opportunity to learn goal setting, sportsmanship, and team cooperation, plus, their importance to performance
  • To learn the value for the process of doing the work involved in achieving goals
  • To provide opportunities to learn good healthy and living habits
  • To promote social and emotional development
  • To maintain a worthwhile and wholesome exercise and recreational outlet

The focus of our YMCA is to strengthen the Foundations of Community through Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Our Y’s mission is to put Judeo- Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Our Springfield Family YMCA uses competitive swimming to deliver on our Focus and mission. By promoting sportsmanship, commitment, teamwork, self-discipline, goal setting, and a strong work ethic, Our SPY Swim Team helps youth reach their potential as individuals.

Character development and values education is an integral part of the National YMCA program. The YMCA has been teaching character development for more than 160 years. YMCA Competitive Swimming provides countless challenges and teachable moments for the development of each individual's character. Our Springfield Family YMCA like other YMCAs focuses on four core values: CaringHonesty, Respect and Responsibility. These are central to the YMCA's commitment to Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility

Our SPY Team is rich in swimming history with numerous awards, records, numerous team recognition, and various levels of competitive qualifiers. The best accomplishment is seeing our swimmers' smile in achieving their lifetime best times. There will be many more smiles, high fives, and cheers to come in the future!

Our program feeds both local high school programs and a number of high schools away from our area!. We intend to make our high school swimmers the absolute best in the area and then the best in the state! Excellent coaches are leading our SPY program.

Springfield Family YMCA

Volunteer founded and volunteer led, the YMCA was established in London, England, in 1844 by George Williams, a draper’s shop assistant, to give young men an alternative to life on the streets. In 1851, Thomas Sullivan, a retired sea captain and lay missionary started the first U.S.YMCA in Boston.  Colonel Edward Marcus Doty making the Springfield Family YMCA one of the oldest YMCAs in the U.S started the Springfield Family YMCA in 1854. Our Springfield Family YMCA has existed in several locations but moved to its current location in the late 1980's.  The 300 South Limestone Street address has seen many local additions as well as an expansion in the late 1990's.

Through the YMCA’s annual support campaign and the local United Way, the YMCA offered financial assistance scholarships to many individuals and families each year for membership and programming. The Springfield Family YMCA offers a wide variety of programming including swim lessons, childcare, health & fitness, sports, day camp, and youth programs. There are classes no matter what your interest.
