Monroe-Woodbury Devilfish Aquatics is a year-round, competitive swim team with members from Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster counties. We are beginning our second year as a merged swim club between the former Monroe-Woodbury Marlins and Devilfish Aquatics swim teams. The Devilfish Aquatics was in existence for over thirty years, and the Monroe-Woodbury Marlins celebrated their forty year anniversary of incorporation in 2014. Together, we share a legacy of over 70 years of swim experience with our members. We offer high quality, professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities; with a focus on individual achievement.
Over the years, the Monroe-Woodbury Marlins and the Devilfish Aquatics have produced some of the best swimmers in the Northern Region of Metropolitan Swimming. In the Fall of 2016, both clubs felt that merging together as one team, would only serve to create a strong, cohesive team that would bring many opportunities that each never had before. The goal of the MWDA is not only to provide every member an opportunity to improve their swimming skills; but to achieve success in and out of the pool at his or her own level of ability - from novice to international competitor. We believe that our swimmers benefit academically, socially and competitively from their participation on the team.
All of our coaches, as members of the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) and USA Swimming, have access to the most comprehensive training and certification program for youth coaches of any sport in the United States. They provide assurances that the time children spend swimming will be quality time, with an emphasis on individual progress. Through goal-setting and commitment, our coaches motivate and encourage our swimmers to achieve their own highest potential and develop a lifelong love of swimming. Our swimmers also learn things they can apply to their life outside of swimming; such as strong work habits, self-discipline and accountability, how to handle competition and pressure, and even how nutrition plays a role in exercise physiology.
The Monroe-Woodbury Devilfish Aquatics, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; run by an elected Board of Directors which meets approximately once each month. As part of the MWDA family, all members are welcome at each meeting and are encouraged to be involved in our team activities and fundraisers.
We hold tryouts in September and April of each year. Please contact us at email@example.com with any questions about joining our team.
Team Mission Statement:
To have a nationally recognized aquatics program emphasizing individual progress, team unity and family participation.
Monroe-Woodbury Devilfish Aquatics (MWDA) pledges to maintain an infrastructure of children, coaches and parents who create the platforms and opportunities for every swimmer to fulfill their potential as a swimmer, person, and member of the team. Although MWDA is a competitive swim club, we emphasize individual improvement through skill acquisition and time improvement; and place less importance on each swimmer's place in a race.
