Swim Fort Lauderdale Swim Lessons

 


A City of Fort Lauderdale Parks and Recreation Program

Parent Toddler: (6 months-3 years)

Parent accompanies child in water. Emphasis is placed on advanced aquatic and safety skills for toddlers and parents, such as: kicking, reach-and-pull arms, floating, bobbing, submerged passing, and jumping up from the bottom of the pool. This class is also offers an introduction into Level 1 skills.

Level 1: (3 years and older)

Children are taught basic aquatic and safety skills in a group setting, such as: bubbles, kicking, floating, reach-and-pull arms, bobbing, elementary  backstroke, and swimming under  water. Children remain in this class until they are able to swim 40ft on their front and back independently.

Level 2: (3 years and older)

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim 20 yards on front and back  without assistance. Swim test required before registering.  This class focuses on improving basic swimming skills and strokes, such as: freestyle, backstroke, rotary breathing, orientation to deep water, turning over, and aquatic safety skills.

Level 3: (4 years and older)

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim 25 yards on front and back and have an understanding of basic strokes. Swim test required before registering.  This class for intermediate swimmers focuses on skills such as: dolphin kick, breaststroke kick,  reverse direction, freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke, diving, treading water and aquatic safety skills.

Level 4: (4 years and older)

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim 25 yards on front and back with proper breathing and arm stroke technique. Swim test required before registering.  This class for advanced swimmers focuses on skills such as: diving, open turns, breaststroke, butterfly, and swimming endurance. Those who move up from this class are encouraged to join our pre-competitive swim team group, Starfish.

Adapted Lessons:

A specialized program for children and adults with physical and/or cognitive challenges. Classes are scheduled upon request.AA  program for childer

Private and Semi-Private Lessons: Individualized swim lesson instruction.
