Rice Aquatics offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of Rice Aquatics to offer age-specific training for all of our athletes, geared towards challenging and developing each individual to the best of their abilities. The Rice Aquatics vision is to excel at every level of competition.

RICE Pre-Competitive Programs

Flight School

Flight School is an entry-level, developmental group for Rice Aquatics. The goal of this group is to have a positive entry point into year-round swimming. Flight School is offered as a twelve week session with a break for the winter/holiday season. Practices are offered twice a week for 45 minutes in four different schedules. Swimmers in this group are typically legal in one or two strokes and have some knowledge of all 4 strokes. Each practice is geared toward a specific technique or concept that will help with the overall progression of all four strokes. There are three 10 & under schedules and one 11 & over schedule. Swimmers in these groups are not USA swimming registered athletes and have no meet requirements.


RICE Aquatics Age Group Development Track

Age Group 1

Age Group 1 is an entry-level competitive group for swimmers 10 years and younger. Swimmers in this group are typically legal in all four strokes. Practices are offered four times per week for an hour of in-water instruction with fifteen minutes of drylands or stretches. Each practice is geared toward a specific technique or concept that will help with the overall progression of all four strokes. Swimmers in this group should be competing in 25s/50s of each stroke, 100 IM, and 100 freestyle.

Age Group 2

Age Group 2 is our second tier group for 8-10 year old swimmers, and an entry-level group for 11 and 12 year olds. Depending on age, swimmers in this group are either efficient or legal in all four strokes and may be working on or achieving BB times. Practices are offered every weekday (five times per week) for an hour of in-water instruction with fifteen minutes of drylands or stretches. Each practice is geared toward a specific technique or concept that will help with the overall progression of all four strokes. Swimmers in this group should be competing in 50s of all strokes, 100 IM, and 200 freestyle.

Age Group 3

Age Group 3 is for the active and committed swimmer who can swim all 4 strokes efficiently. Swimmers in this group typically range from 9-12 years old.Practices are offered every weekday (five times per week) for an hour and 30 minutes, with an additional Saturday morning practice. The group offers swimmers the chance to progress by introducing elements of training and conditioning while spending the majority of their time on improving stroke technique and mechanics. Swimmers in this group should be competing in 50s of all strokes, 200 freestyle, 200 IM, and 500 freestyle.

RICE Aquatics Age Group Track

Age Group 4 Navy

Age Group 4 Navy is for the swimmer 12 years of age and older who is working towards a higher level of swimming skills and attending swim meets. Practices are offered weekdays (five times per week) for an hour and 15 minutes, with an additional Saturday morning practice. Practices are geared towards stroke technique/correction while conditioning and endurance are being introduced. Swimmers in this group should be competing in 100s of all strokes, 200 freestyle, and 200 IM.

Age Group 4 Silver

Age Group 4 Silver is for the 11 -15 years of age swimmer who has developed a higher level of swimming skills and is committed to the sport. Practices are offered every weekday (five times per week) for an 2 hours with an additional Saturday morning practice. Practices offer both stroke technique/correction while introducing aspects conditioning and endurance. Practice attendance in this group should be an average of 80%. Swimmers are actively competing in meets, including championship meets, swimming the following events: 100s/200's of all strokes, 200 freestyle, 200 IM, and 500/1000 freestyle.

Age Group 4 White

Age Group 4 White is for the 12 -15 years of age swimmer who has developed a high level of swimming skills and is committed to the sport. Practices are offered every weekday (five times per week) for 2 Hours, with an additional Saturday morning practice. Practices are still geared towards stroke technique/correction but strength conditioning and endurance are becoming prominent. Practice attendance in this group should be an average of 85%. Swimmers are actively competing in meets, including championship meets, swimming the following events: 200s of all strokes, 200 freestyle, 200 IM/400 IM, and 500/1000/1650 freestyle.

RICE Aquatics Senior Track

Senior Navy

Senior Navy is for a high school age swimmer looking for additional training outside of their school swim team. Practices are offered two weekday mornings for an hour and fifteen minutes, two weekday nights for an hour and half and an additional Saturday morning practice. Swimmers in this group will work on overall conditioning, stroke technique, and strength. Swimmers are looking to supplement their high school swimming and/or continue to develop training/racing skills.  Swimmers in Senior Navy are competing at high school and year round swim meets, in 100s of all strokes, 200 IM, and 200 freestyle.

Senior Silver 

Senior Silver is for a high school swimmer looking for additional training outside of their school swim team. Practices are offered every weekday afternoon (five times per week) for two hours, one weekday mornings for one hour, and an additional Saturday morning practice. Swimmers in this group will work on overall conditioning, stroke technique, and strength. Swimmers are working towards multiple A/BB time standards, test sets outlined in Senior White, and consistent practice attendance. Swimmers are competing at high school and year round swim meets, in 100s of all strokes, 200 IM, and 200/500 freestyle.

Placement into Senior Silver requires that the Senior Silver handbook be reviewed by both swimmer and parent and signed prior to the start of the season. Swimmers will be held to these standards through out the year. If swimmers do not uphold these standards they will be moved into Senior Navy for the remainder of the year. 

Senior White

Senior White is for the swimmer who has shown the following: consistent practice attendance, complete knowledge of all skills and drills, the ability to train at a high level, and a commitment to swimming year round with Rice Aquatics. Swimmers in this group are typically 15 years and older. Practices are offered every weekday afternoon (five times per week) for two hours, three weekday mornings for one hour, and an additional two hour Saturday morning practice. Swimmers in this group typically have multiple 15 and Over A times and if 14 or younger have Sectional time standards and multiple 15 and Over AA time standards. Swimmers are actively competing in all year-round meets, including championship meets, swimming the following events: 100s and 200s of all strokes, 200/400 IM, and 500/1000/1650 freestyle.

Placement into Senior 2 requires that the Senior 2 handbook be reviewed by both swimmer and parent and signed prior to the start of the season. Swimmers will be held to these standards through out the year. If swimmers do not uphold these standards they will be moved into Senior 1 for the remainder of the year. 

 


RICE Programs at The Briar Club


BC Navy Group 

The Navy group is an introductory level group for swimmers between the age of 6-12. Depending on age, swimmers in this group are either efficient or legal in 2-4 of the strokes.  Each practice is geared toward a specific technique or concept that will help with the overall progression of all four strokes, starts, and turns.  The Navy group will practice, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30 pm - 5:30pm. Admittance into the Navy group must be approved by Coach Mike.

BC Silver Group

The Silver group is our intermediate leveled group. Depending on age, swimmers in this group are either efficient or legal in all four strokes and may be working on or achieving times standards.  Each practice is geared toward a specific technique or concept that will help with the overall progression of all four strokes. Practices are offered Monday through Thursday from 4:30 pm - 5:45pm and Saturday mornings from 9:00-10:00am. Silver group swimmers should strive to practice at least three tims a week. Admittance into the Silver group must be approved by Coach Mike.

BC WHITE Group

The White group is for the active and committed swimmer who can swim all 4 strokes efficiently. Swimmers in this group typically range from 10 +years old. Practices are offered every weekday with an additional Saturday morning practice. The group offers swimmers the chance to progress by introducing elements of training and conditioning while spending the majority of their time on improving stroke technique and mechanics. Swimmers in this group should be competing in 50s of all strokes, 200 freestyle, 200 IM, and 500 freestyle Practices are Monday through Friday from 5:00-7:00pm with the first 30 minutes being a dryland workout and Saturday mornings 8:00 am -9:30am. Gold level swimmers should strive to make a minimum of four practices a week, and admittance into the group must be approved by Coach Mike.

BC Conditioning Group

The BC Condition Group is a new group offered starting in the fall of 2018. This group is designed for an older athlete who is looking to keep their condition up to supplement their high school swimming. More details will be available for the Fall season.

RICE Masters Program

Rice Aquatics Masters is an adult fitness swimming program. We cater to adult fitness swimmers, adult competitive swimmers, tri-athletes, and adults who want to be any of the above, but just don’t know it yet. The program offers fifteen organized swimming sessions each week in mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Masters practices are professionally coached, and emphasize endurance, stroke technique, and a positive group effort with motivated adults.
