About Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club
Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club is a year round USA Swim Club located in Waynesville, NC. Established in 2000, SMAC has experienced success on many levels, and has represented our community at the Local, Regional, Sectional, and National level competition. Our goal is to help young athletes in Haywood County and Western North Carolina be the best they can be in the pool and out. We want our athletes to enjoy the sport and excel at it, no matter the age. Through the sport of swimming, it is the mission of the team to teach life values and help develop the athlete and person into the best they can be, in and out of the water.
SMAC is a fun, hardworking group of athletes, coaches and families who take pride in the program. It’s a great place for a young person to learn sportsmanship, leadership and integrity, all while challenging oneself, learning new skills, and making new friends. The upcoming season will begin Wednesday Aug 17th for Senior and Big SMAC or Wednesday Aug 24 for Little SMAC. This season promises to be a special one. With a growing team, a positive team culture and spirit, the team is looking to conquer North Carolina one race at a time.
SMAC is open to swimmers of all abilities ages 6 and up. To accommodate this, we are divided into 3 groups, Senior SMAC, Big SMAC, and Little SMAC. Little SMAC is our introductory level for the beginner. The group has fun, learning in an environment where athletes are mastering all the strokes. The group is figuring out what it means to be part of a team, while developing the skills needed for success at regional competition.
The transition between Little and Senior SMAC, Big SMAC, is comprised of athletes with meet experience, more advanced stroke technique and a passion for the sport. Members compete at meets throughout the southeast. Stroke development, endurance, strength and speed gains are the priority.
Senior SMAC is our veteran group, where athletes ages 13 and up are looking to compete at the highest level possible. The group continues to a detailed focus on technique, but incorporates higher performance and training expectations as well. The group is striving for high and worthy goals in and out of the pool.

Frequently Asked Questions
1 - How much does everything cost?
All dues, fees, and pricing can be found in the SMAC Parent Handbook.
2 - I have a conflict (soccer/piano/ballet) and cannot attend a practice. Is that OK?
For athletes on LITTLE and BIG SMAC, Yes! It is OK if you need to miss a practice. We want our younger swimmers to be well rounded athletes and succeed in and out of the pool. That being said, it's also important that a disclaimer is issued. The more time your athlete spends in the pool, the greater number of opportunities they have to improve. Athletes on SENIOR SMAC have placed a priority on swimming and should plan on attending as many practices as possible.
3 - My athlete is a little frightened of competition. Should we attend meets? Which meets are appropriate for us?
YES, you should attend meets. Every athlete on SMAC should plan on attending as many meets as possible. They are a part of the swim team experience. There are 3 great, low key, fun meets held every season in Asheville. They are appropriate for everyone and will be a priority for Little and Big SMAC. Meets are our games - meets are WHY we practice. They're where we test what we've learned, form relationships and friendships with teammates, and gain valuable racing experience. This season we have many home meets on the calendar, that are a requisite of every athlete on the team.
