The Ankeny Aquahawks offers training and practice groups for swimmers based on their ability level. It is the goal of the Ankeny Aquahawks to offer specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.
Previous Aquahawk swimmers will typically start practice each season in the same practice group as their previous swim team season. New swimmers will be evaluated by coaches on New Swimmer Evaluation Night to determine which practice group they will attend. Evaluation Night for the winter season is held in October and in May for the summer season. Most all new swimmers with no previous competitive swim team experience will practice in Silver group. Here is a general guideline of our practice groups, however, all practice group swimmer placement are all based on swimmer skill level (not by age):
- Senior: This is the highest competitive level practice group offered on our swim team.
- Pre-Senior: Practice group for those who are committed to swimming and competing in high levels of competition. Swimmers are able to demonstrate the ability to handle an increased workload & reach the attendance expectation.
- Gold: Practice group for those who are able to master all four competitive strokes, starts, and turns. This is a competitive training group aimed at continuing to develop strong technical stroke skills and endurance.
- Silver: This practice group is generally those with less than 1 year of competitive swim team experience and younger or NEW swimmers
