About our swim lessons:
We offer a variety of swim lessons designed by our highly trained lessons staff. Our levels begin with Adult & Tot (from ages 6 months to about 3 years) and pre-school lessons that allow young children to become familiar and comfortable in the water. They are not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to survive in the water on their own. The Learn-to-Swim levels are designed to develop a positive attitude and a progression of good swimming habits throughout each level based on the research and knowledge of th American Red Cross. The objective is to teach participants to swim and be safe in, on, and around the water, while preparing students to join a competitive swim team.
Our goal at Jenison is safety, fun, and progression! Keeping that philosophy in mind, we only pass swimmers to the next level when they safely complete all of the skills for the level they are enrolled in, can fully participate in the next level safely, and are able to enjoy learning the more challenging skills of the next level.
For more detailed information click on each level under the JPS Swim Lessons tab. Also check out our FAQ located at the bottom of this page for details about lessons.

During our Adult & Tot lessons, an adult is expected to be with the child in the water at all times. Preschool parents are expected to view all classes from the bleachers on deck. Learn-to-Swim levels one and up parents are permitted to watch the first and the last day only. Parents with children in both Preschool and Learn-to-Swim levels one and up may view from the bleachers as long as it does not distract the child in the level one and up class. Private and Semi-Private lessons parents are allowed to view each lesson from the deck.
Safety day is the fourth lesson of each session. This is a mandatory day and is a component for all children in order to pass the level they are enrolled in. If your child has a Coast Guard approved life jacket at home, you are welcome to bring it on Safety Day; but if you do not have any, there will be approved life jackets available at our facility.
