Job Summary and Key Accountabilities: Swim Team Coach is responsible for promoting and developing the YMCA swim team by facilitating the growth and improvement of swim team participants and creating a positive experience for participants and their families. This includes coordinating with the Head Coach to develop and implement practices, engaging participants and families to meet their needs, preparing for meets and other special events and insuring the safety of participants. Scope of Responsibilities: Coaching/Participant Experience  Coaches, trains and mentors swimmers to foster development, maximize swimming performance, and teach appropriate swimming techniques.  Leads swim team practices developed by Head Coach and assists Head Coach with design of training programs. Engages swimmers and parents to cultivate collaborative relationships. Modifies and customizes workouts to match swimmer skill levels. Provides feedback to swimmers and parents to facilitate improvement, refine abilities and prevent injury.  Captures and records swimming times to track progress and determine meet eligibility Meet Preparation and Execution
 Stays abreast of meet rules and guidelines to ensure compliance with standards
 Assists with the submission of meet entries
 Assists with the coordination of suits and uniforms
 Supervises swim team members at meets and other team functions
 Cooperates with swim team volunteers, officials, scorekeepers and timers
Safety
 Ensures the physical and emotional health and safety of swimmers by being safety conscious,
following all established YMCA standards and critically evaluating situations for potential risks.
 Ensures compliance with established rules and regulations to ensure safety. Monitors
swimmers and the pool and provides corrective coaching and intervention as necessary.
Continued Education & Training
 Actively participates in obtaining further water safety certifications.
 Attends all in-service trainings and staff meetings as scheduled by supervisor or center
leadership team.
 Maintains job-related certifications and documents completion of certifications in the Human
Resources Information System

 Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to

 Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and

Age Group ( possible Head AG ) coaching position available on the Sage Piranha Swim Team

in Crystal Lake

Position :             The Sage Piranhas Swim Team has an immediate opening for a coach in our

                              Age Group and Intermediate groups. Candidates, for this position, must be

                              organized, motivated, and a positive influence on the athletes they will

                              coach. The position will require coaching Monday through Friday from 4:15

                              to 7:15 plus coaching at our scheduled meets. Additional hours of coaching

                              may be available.

 

Qualifications :   Previous coaching experience and a knowledge of competitive swimming

                               required. If not already certified, candidates must be willing to acquire ALL

                               certifications and screenings required by both USA and YMCA Swimming.

 

Compensation :  Pay will be at a set hourly rate ( determined by the position held ). All

                               hours ( practices, meets, meetings, and certification time ) will be included.

Illinois Math and Science Academy Coaches

Illinois Math and Science Academy in Aurora, IL is looking for head and assistant coaches for both boys’ and girls’ high school swim teams.  The positions are seasonal, with the girls’ season running from Aug-Nov and the boys’ season running from Nov-Feb.  Duties include organizing practice schedules, teaching proper strokes in the pool and for dryland training, preparing swimmers to compete at a high level, and traveling with the team to their meets.   Applicants should have a background in swimming at the high school or club level.  A knowledge of IHSA rules, guidelines and procedures is helpful.  Must have a knowledge of or willingness to learn Hy-Tek Team and Meet Manager.  Position requires an approved teaching certificate or completion of ASEP training (can be provided).  Contact Quintin Backstrom at Qback02@imsa.edu.

Aquatics Director/Head Coach Fox Valley YMCA

Rapidly growing two branch association 45 miles SW from downtown Chicago serving over 7,000 association members seeks Aquatics Director/Head Coach to provide hands on leadership and vision for lessons, facility management, lifeguard management and competitive swimming of our 8-lane indoor 25m pool. The Aquatics Director/Head Coach will develop, organize and implement high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs as the areas leader in aquatic programming.  

Qualifications

1.         Bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation or related field.

2.         Minimum of 3 years experience, coaching with direct supervisory responsibility as an         Aquatics Director or Assistant Director of a large aquatics program.

3.         ASCA Swimming Coach certified, USA Swimming member in good standing, and           ability to pass USAS background check and Athletic Protection Training.

4.         Success in athlete improvement over multiple training levels.

5.         Requires successful previous experience providing leadership, positive energy, strong        deck presence, and great ethics/reliability.

6.         Must be organized, deadline driven, an effective communicator and a person of high         moral character.

7.         Previous competitive swimming background preferred as is experience with Team Unify   and Meet Manager.

Essential Functions

  • ASCA Level II (educated through Level IV) or higher
  • Current first aid, lifeguard, AED/oxygen, CPR-PR, and American Red Cross safety training certification

    • September–March

  • Overall responsibility for the scheduling of assistant coaches.  Ensuring that there are an appropriate number of coaches as dictated by registration.

Responsibilities as aquatics director include the following:

  • Manage a safe, fun and effective daily swim program for the members including swim team, camp, and other general pool usage.

Furthermore, the Senior Coach also has an Administrative Assistant who can work up to 10 hours a week for DCST.
Essential functions for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Directs, supervises and oversees the entire DCST program to meet YMCA objectives, standards and guidelines.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with the strategic and operation plans.
  • Coaches DCST swim team members, 13 years and older, in competitive swimming development techniques.

 Description: The McGaw YMCA Swim Team is a YMCA/USA swim team with around 200 swimmers. We are looking for a 15-20 hour a week Age Group coach to work with several different practice levels within our team.  The hours are 4-8:30pm most weekdays and weekends for swim meets when necessary.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Swim Team Director is responsible for the planning, organization, delivery and quality of the two West Cook YMCA (TOPS) Competitive Swim Team Programs. Programs include but are not limited to the TOPS Swim Team and the Masters Swim Team.
Emphasis is on quality of the programs, collaborations and expansion of programs within our service area, increasing enrollment in existing programs, and budget management. The Joliet YMCA Jets Swim Team is seeking creative, energetic and motivated individuals for part-time assistant swim coach positions starting in April 2014:

 

·         We will be adding practice times at our Avery Family YMCA branch in Plainfield and are looking for coaches to lead the levels practicing at that site.  Coaches must be strong in fostering team spirit and unity, building positive relationships and developing stroke technique.

·         We will also be hiring a coach to be utilized for private instruction with our athletes in a one-on-one or small group setting.  This coach should be ASCA Level 2 certified and/or very proficient in correcting stroke technique as well as using technology such as an underwater camera, iPad, etc.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

·         Ideal candidates will have previous swim coaching experience and training.

·         Candidates must have availability in the afternoon/evening times and weekends.

Purpose: The role of the Aquatic Director is to provide administrative oversight and strategic direction to program areas, swim lessons, and related staff. In addition, aquatic safety and successful risk management procedures must be implemented. As a member of the YMCA’s leadership team, the Aquatic Director is responsible for assessing information, obtaining feedback, and assisting with global decision making.
Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure aquatic safety and risk management best practices are implemented and adhered to.
  • Hire, supervise, lead, train, and schedule all lifeguards and affiliated program staff.
  • Implement youth and adult swim lesson curriculum.
  • Ensure necessary aquatic in-service trainings are implemented on a periodic basis and documented.
  • Administer, plan, schedule, and promote all swim lessons.
  • Develop and plan the annual pool usage schedule.
  • Maintain open and consistent communication with all YMCA staff and program participants.
  • Develop and foster relationships with members, staff, program participants and community at-large.
  • Purchase necessary life-safety and programming equipment as needed.
  • Administer, schedule, teach, and promote Lifeguarding and First Aid/CPR courses.
  • Schedule regular staff meetings with aquatic staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilitess degree, W.S.I.certification (or equivalent) and L.G.I. certification is required. Additional aquatics certifications are preferred.


Work Environment and Benefits: The aquatic area was constructed in 1971 and is a 6 lane 25 yd multi-use pool. Candidates need to comprehend older aquatic environments to be humid with minimal ventilation. The candidate will have a choice of an office inside the pool area or outside the pool area. Work hours are flexible and vary depending upon meetings, trainings, instruction, etc. The salary range is $28,000 - $34,000 depending upon experience and qualifications. As a full time exempt employee, the chosen candidate will received vacation pay after six months, a 12% of salary retirement contribution (after 2 years of service), 100% employee paid health, dental, and vision premium, LTD insurance, flexible working hours, and YMCA membership.
