Belmont Aquatic Team Volunteers at Local Food Pantry
As everyone knows, swimmers need healthy foods to fuel their bodies so they can swim long and fast. In thinking about the importance of healthy food in swimming, the Belmont Aquatic Team volunteered at the local Belmont Food Pantry to help clients select food to take home. Many of our swimmers attended and engaged with the clients of the pantry to help them have a positive experience and go home with food, toiletries and paper goods for themselves and their families. After their volunteer shift, the swimmers attended their regular practice that night. The event was so successful that the team is hosting a food drive throughout the month of February and has already collected more than 25 pounds of food for the pantry. In addition, many swimmers have signed up to volunteer at the food pantry for several evenings this spring. The experience has had a lasting impact on the team and many swimmers talk about how it made them feel good to give back to the community.
