Practice Schedule & Groups

Due to the pandemic, our team operations will be limited this summer to ensure a safe experience for our families. We hope to resume our normal operations in Summer, 2022.

Practices begin at the Lakeway Swim Center on Monday, May 3, 2021 and end on Friday, June 11, 2021. Swimmers should report to practice based on their age as of May 1, 2021 and the group they registered for. Please bring your swimmer to the correct practice and pick them up promptly when practice is finished.

Practices are under the direct supervision of our certified coaches. The pool is managed and watched by City of Lakeway staff lifeguards.

Please note that the recreational pool (with the slides) is closed during our practices. Please do not let children play in the stairwells in the lap pool during practices.

Practices will be based on swimmer age as of May 1, 2021. Each group will practice three times each week, on assigned days. We will limit our registration tp 16 swimmers per group to be able to provide social distancing. We encourage swimmers to come to every practice, but this is not required.

Your child's practice time is based on his or her age as of May 1, 2021 and the group you registered for. Please note that we do not allow swimmers to switch practice groups so please make sure that your child can attend practice at his or her designated practice time.

Practice Group Information

Swimmers are placed into practice groups at the beginning of the season based on their age as of May 1, 2021.

8 and Unders

Our youngest swimmers (ages 5 & 6) usually start off working on basic swimming skills and as a result are generally only swimming one or two events at meets. Most swimmers master freestyle and backstroke during the season. It is unusual for young swimmers to swim breaststroke and butterfly legally but they will prepare for these strokes during practice. At meets, swimmers can enter up to three individual events and one relay event. However, swimmers are only placed in events when their strokes are legal.

Most 7 & 8 year old swimmers have mastered freestyle and backstroke, and many of them can swim the breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley events. This group focuses on stroke work by using drills to develop good strokes and habits. At meets, swimmers can enter up to three individual events and up to two relay events. However, swimmers are only placed in events when their strokes are legal.

9 & Overs

Most 9 & older swimmers have been introduced to all of the four competitive stokes and the individual medley event. Swimmers in this age group work on drills to improve their strokes. By mid-season, most of the 9 & older swimmers can legally swim the individual events and the IM.

Most older swimmers have had summer swim team experience. Swimmers in this group are usually proficient at all four competitive strokes and the individual medley. Swimmers in this group work on stroke mechanics, flip turns, dives, and racing. As the season progresses, swimmers will swim longer distances at practice to build endurance.
