If you're looking for a competitive youth swim team, you've found the right place in NOVA. Our club, now more than twenty-five years old, focuses on age-appropriate, targeted training to help our swimmers learn proper technique. Our year-round team is comprised of over 800 swimmers and includes kids from about age six up to those graduating from high school. We offer more swim groups tailored to specific levels than any other club in the area - one of our fourteen practice groups is right for your swimmer, no matter what his or her skill level. Swimmers advance when the right combination of skill, age and commitment come together.
The NOVA Aquatic Center currently has two indoor 25 m x 25 yd pools with state-of-the-art air handling and filtration systems. Many of our swim meets, especially those for younger swimmers, take place at our facility. Our coaching staff is among the best in the country. In fact, our Head Coach, Geoff Brown, recently was awarded one of USA Swimming's highest honors - he was named the 2012 Developmental Coach of the Year. That followed his being named National Club Swimming Association (NSCA) Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2010. But what makes NOVA unique in USA Swimming? The coaches working with our most elite swimmers are the same ones preparing our youngest swimmers for their very first meet.
NOVA is a parent-run organization with an elected board of directors focused on bringing best practices to our club. The club has been recognized by USA Swimming as a premier club for many years. Our successes include being ranked in the Top Ten for the USA Swimming Virtual Club rankings since the program started in 2003. Our team has brought home multiple Virginia State Championship trophies for age group and senior level swimmers each year since 2000. Additional achievements; include winning the NCSA Junior Nationals Men’s champions in 2006 and 2009, earning the Men’s second-place spot in both 2008 and 2010, and winning the Women’s championship each year 2008 to 2011. NOVA was also the winner of the NCSA Team Combined championship in 2009 and 2010 and was the runner-up in 2006, 2008 and 2011. Twelve of our senior-level swimmers qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials, and nine qualified in 2016. Townley Haas, 2016 Gold Medalist in the 4 x 200 m Freestyle Relay, is a graduate of the NOVA program. Our alumni go on to swim and study at top ranked universities across the country.
NOVA's focus is not only on swimming, however. Most importantly, we help kids learn skills they will need throughout life: discipline, goal setting, time management, healthy habits and more. It's all done in a supportive environment filled with friendship and fun. So whether you are looking for help in creating a great swimmer, or perhaps just a great kid, NOVA is the place for you.
