The Scholastic All American Swim Team members have been identified. This year only 1,226 swimmers in the nation reached the high standards to make the team. In the state of New Jersey, 25 women and 24 men were accepted to this year’s team. Among those 49 swimmers, one is from our very own Jersey Flyers Aquatic Club.
Joshua Sembrano has been recognized for this honor because he has excelled in the classroom and in the pool. The Scholastic All American Team is comprised of high school student-athletes in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades who maintain a 3.5 or higher grade point average and meet a required time standard in a single event.
Josh earned a qualifying time of 51.93 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke during the 2012 Short Course Junior Olympics competition back in March. He is an 11th grade student at Bergen Catholic High School where he maintains a 3.7 grade point average.
We would also like to point out that Kim Sembrano qualified for the Scholastic All American team, with a qualifying time of 57.66 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke at the 2012 Short Course Junior Olympics in March. But since at the time she was not yet in 10th grade, she is not officially on the team. Kim holds a 3.9 grade point average and is in her sophomore year at Bergen Technical High School.
