Competitive Swim Camp Coaches needed 

Pool Sharks is looking for experienced and energetic coaches for an after school Swim Camp offered Monday through Thursday from April 2nd to May 24th.  Sessions will be 3:45-4:45 with the possibility of adding an additional session from 4:45-5:45.  Please email Trina VandeBerg at  SPPSboard@gmail.com if interested.

Head Coach

The Sauk Prairie Pool Shark (SPPS) summer swim team, is actively seeking a full-season, experienced Head Coach for age group swimmers. SPPS is a not-for-profit swim organization located in south-central Wisconsin. SPPS has been a part of the Sauk Prairie Community for over 30 years and is overseen by a parent volunteer board of directors. We have approximately 120-140 swimmers in our club.  

The ideal candidate would have:  experience with Tri-County Swim League, experience as a competitive swimmer and/or coach, lifeguard certification, CPR certification, WSI preferred.  A standard criminal background check will be conducted.  

Head Coach Responsibilities:

1. Manage daily swim team operations and administration.  Attendance is required at all meets and practices. Morning practices are typically held 6:45-8:00 a.m. at the indoor pool, High Performance practice is from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the outdoor pool and includes dryland training, and afternoon practices are 5:15-6:30 at the outdoor pool. (Coaches’ absences from practices are limited to 2 excused absences for the summer.  Meets are mandatory unless approved prior to hiring.)  

2. Develop age-appropriate swim programs for all swimmers. Inspire and challenge each swimmer to achieve their goals and develop positive self-esteem.  

3. Emphasize to all swimmers the importance of proper technique, teamwork, sportsmanship, learning and fun.  

4. Oversee, manage, and help develop assistant coaches’ techniques and skills. Assign duties and supervise on deck coaching for all age group levels.  Use Team Unify to help swimmers set goals for improvement and track progress.

5. Develop and implement practice schedules tailored to the season and meet schedule.  

6. Develop meet schedules, meet entries, travel plans, and coaching assignments.  

7. Communicate with families and the SPPS Board including attending parent meetings, making website updates, answering emails, submitting coach’s reports, and attending relevant board meetings.  

8. Recruit and retain swimmers, including marketing and promotion to the community.  

Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Assistant Head Coach

The Sauk Prairie Pool Sharks (SPPS) are seeking energetic, knowledgeable, dependable and responsible Assistant Age Group Coaches who want to be part of a coaching staff aimed at excellence.  This coach will be responsible for:

  • Daily coaching for age groups, including in-the-water demonstrations. Morning practices are typically held 6:45-8:00 a.m. at the indoor pool and afternoon practices are 5:15-6:30 at the outdoor pool. (Coaches’ absences from practices are limited to 2 excused absences for the summer.  Meets are mandatory unless approved prior to hiring.)
  • Parent communication.
  • Swimmer goal setting - use Team Unify to help swimmers set goals and track progress achieving goals. (best times, learning flip turns, etc.)
  • Practice planning and organization.
  • Meet entries and coaching at all meets.

Lifeguard certification, CPR certification, WSI preferred. Start date is Tuesday, May 29th, 2018 with a pre-season meeting on Wednesday, May 16th. End date is Sunday, July 29th.   • Practice planning and organization.
  • Meet entries and coaching at all meets.

If you are interested in helping out this summer as a volunteer coach, please send Trina VandeBerg an email at SPPSboard@gmail.com by April 1, 2016 indicating what day(s) and times you may be interested in helping.  Being a volunteer coach is a great way to give back to the swim team, gain experience with coaching, young swimmers, and support the youth in the community.
