GYST Swim Groups, Fees & Practice Schedule

Fall/Winter Season 2017/2018  |  September - March

Spring Team Placement Night For New Swimmers Is April 18, 6:00 p.m, at the Y.

The Lake Geneva YMCA Swim Team (GYST) offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Lake Geneva YMCA Swim Team to offer age-specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of his or her ability.  Join competitive swimming and learn and enjoy skills that will last a lifetime.

Bronze Group: Entry Level GYST Swimmers

The desired objectives of this group are to teach the fundamentals and mechanics of each stroke. Swimmers entering the team must be able to swim at least two lengths of the pool freestyle and two lengths of the pool backstroke. A swimmer in this group should have some experience with breaststroke and butterfly, and he/she should be able to endure a 45 minute practice. This group provides a fun atmosphere and introduces swimmers to competition when ready.

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: 5:00-5:45 p.m.

Price: $41 per month

Silver Group: Generally Swimmers 7-13 years of age

The desired objectives of this group are to continue to teach stroke mechanics and the fundamentals of swimming as well as to develop endurance in the sport. Swimmers in this group should be able to swim all 4 strokes; they will continue to learn drills and will also continue to develop starts and turns.

Monday-Thursday: 4:45-5:45 p.m.

Price: $55 per month

Gold: Generally Swimmers 9-13 years of age

The desired objectives of this group are to develop stroke mastery and build endurance beyond that of the Silver Group. Swimmers in this group should be familiar with competing in several meets during the year, will develop the ability to use a pace clock, and learn more about interval training.

Monday-Friday: 4:45-6:00 p.m.

Price: $69 per month

Junior Group: Generally Swimmers 11-15 years of age

The primary purpose of this group is to develop training habits that will prepare swimmers for senior level competition and training. Swimmers in this group will be introduced to goal setting and functional training habits that should be established before moving on to an elite level of training. This group is expected to attend at least 4 practices a week in order to maintain endurance, training habits, and to be prepared for end of season competitions. Dry land training in this group is primarily focused on developing more strength, endurance, and flexibility to prepare swimmers for the next level. 

Monday-Friday: 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Dryland Training: Tuesdays & Wednesday 5:30-6:00 p.m.

Price: $87 per month

Senior Group: Generally Swimmers 14-18+ years of age

This group is for all swimmers near late middle school age and up who are willing to train for elite level competitions. Swimmers in this group will continue dry land training for strength, injury prevention, and flexibility purposes. This group focuses on race preparation, goal setting, aerobic, anaerobic, and specific stroke training, race strategy, pace work, and continued technique and mechanics work on strokes, starts, and turns. Swimmers in this group should be committed to attending practices daily and should be willing to attend as many meets as possible throughout the season.

Monday-Friday: 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Dryland Training: Tuesdays & Wednesday 5:30-6:00 p.m.

Price: $110 per month

Master's Adult Swim Team: Ages 18+

This group is for anyone 18 years of age or older who would like to continue swimming with a team. Practices are 90 minutes long and are at a level that provides a good workout for those who would like to stay in shape, and it also helps provide training for those in Masters Swimming events, Triathlon events, and Open Water swims.
