Swim Groups

The Morgan County Marlins offer training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Morgan County Marlins to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Prior to joining the team, all athletes must go through at least one month of stroke clinic (those holding USAS membership are exempt from this rule; those who have swam on other teams but are not members of USAS may schedule an evaluation by contacting the Head Coach) to get a working knowledge of the four competitive strokes prior to their first practice.

Blue Group (age 6-12)

This is our entry level group. Athletes will be introduced to competitive swimming techniques and rules. Swimmers will learn and practice basic mechanics of the four competitive strokes.

Equipment Required: Goggles

Workout Days/Times: Tuesday & Thursday 4-5 PM

Gold B Group (age 6-8)

From the Blue group, athletes move into one of the Gold groups. Athletes in Gold B are young swimmers who have competitive swimming experience. They will continue to learn the four strokes and begin working on diving and flip turns. This group focuses mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, having fun, and perfecting start and turn technique.

Workout Days/Times: Tuesday & Thursday 4-5:30 PM, Friday 4-5 PM

Gold A Group (age 9-12)

Gold A swimmers know their strokes, have developed speed and are working on further endurance. Swimmers will continue to practice basic mechanics of the four competitive strokes, speed, turns, finishes, and reading the pace clock/swim workout. Emphasis will be placed on team building. Swimmers are required to attend at least 2/3 of practices and 50% of meets.

They are swimmers who have moved beyond the limitations of the Gold A workout, but aren't quite ready for the distance and pace of the Elite/Senior workout. These swimmers exhibit a high level of competency in the four competitive strokes and train with an emphasis on endurance, pace and stroke technique refinement. Athletes in this group train for the 200 Individual Medley and 500 Freestyles. Swimmers are required to attend at least 2/3 of practices and 50% of meets.

Younger swimmers who have attained two “A” times within their age group may also be a part of this ability group.
