Practice Group-Descriptions & Schedules

2019-2020

Earth

Description:

Age Range:

5 to 11

Requirements:

Ability to swim 25 freestyle and 25 backstroke without assistance

Goals:

Know and distinguish all four competitive strokes, starts, and turns

Introduce and understand drills, the pace clock, and swim meets

Participate in at least 2-3 meets of the season including all team hosted meets

Schedule:

Monday, Thursday @ 3:50-4:45 PM, Tuesday @ 4:20-5:15 PM -No practice Wednesday or Friday

 

Moon

Description:

Age Range:

8 to 13

Requirements:

Swim a 50 backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly and a 100 of freestyle

Know and distinguish all four competitive strokes, starts, and turns

Knowledge of drills, the pace clock, and swim meets

Goals:

Develop stroke technique

Participate in a variety of events(stroke, distance)

Participate in at least 3-4 meets of the season including all team hosted meets

Schedule:

Monday-Friday @ 3:50-5:15 PM

Sun

Description:

Age Range:

14 to 19

Requirements:

Consistently swim legal strokes at practice and at swim meets

Qualify for SD State Swim Meet in 3 events

Compete in all events at least once in the season

Goals:

Achieve two (2) ‘A’ Times

Compete in multiple swim meets outside of Yankton, SD

Keep a journal

Schedule:

Monday-Friday @ 5:50-7:30 AM, Wednesday, Friday @ 4:00-5:15 PM

Bring tennis shoes Wednesday and Friday mornings

*Coach Addison has the final decision on placement

*Practice schedule will be re-evaluated at the end of October

5:50-7:30 AM, 11:20 AM-12:30 PM

Bring tennis shoes for mornings.

 

Team Bonding/Celebration:

Every month there will be at least one team bonding/celebration event.

Team Volunteering:

Every two months there will be at least one opportunity for YST to volunteer.

Breaking Wave Day:

When the team gets into the core of the season there are many times when there is either swim practice or swim meets every single day. Breaking Wave Days are always on Mondays and help athletes to recover from a weekend of competing and prepare for the week ahead. On Breaking Wave Days all athletes have the option to come in for a 30 minute recovery practice.
