Swim Groups

The Hurricane Swim Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Hurricanes to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging and developing each individual to the best of their abilities.

Covington Satellite Team

This satellite team swims at Tchefuncta Country Club year round. We are comprised of Red through Gold group swimmers with the same focus in each group as our main training location in Slidell. We practice four days per week and are coached by Shannon Prator and Tiffany Hill.

Blue Group

This is our entry level group for 8 & unders needing the most intense stroke work. They practice 3 days per week for 1 hour. Our focus is on proper stroke technique and development, learning stroke drills, endurance building, diving, turns, sportsmanship, and team building.

White Group

This is our second tier group for swimmers with previous swim team experience mostly comprised of 10 & Unders. They practice 3 days per week for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. Our focus is on further stroke technique and development, more advanced drills, racing techniques, endurance skills, and team building.

Pink Group

This group is a step up from the white group for those swimmers advancing beyond the beginner level but are not quite ready for the intensity or intervals of the red group. These are commonly first year or second year swimmers with the goal of increasing endurance, speed, and maturity to ready them for the next step. Four days per week at 1 1/2 hours.

Red Group

This group is comprised of 12 & Unders with more extensive swim team experience. They practice 4 days per week for  1 1/2 hours. Our focus in this group takes the basic skills to the next level with more complex drills, more intense training, but continuing to focus on stroke technique and development, racing strategies, and pinpointing each swimmers' strengths.

Bronze Group

This group is comprised of our more advanced 11 - 14 year olds. They practice 5 days per week for 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Endurance and speed training as well as continued stroke techniques are the focus in this group. These swimmers are encouraged to compete in the more difficult events at meets and develop their individual strengths and strokes. Commitment to swimming at this level is a must.


Athletes in this group are aged 13 - 15 and must display a desire to begin training on a more committed basis. They practice 5-6 days per week for 2 hours with some doubles in season. Individual strokes and distances are developed at this stage with a focus on State Qualifying times, advanced training sets, and finite stroke work. You must be in high school to swim in this group.

Gold Group

Swimmers in this group are aged 14 and older and practice 6 days per week for 2 hours with doubles in season. Athletes entering the Gold group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of. Training is geared towards individual talents and distances; conditioning and endurance work are the backbones of this group. Athletes are directed towards making their Sectional Time Standards and above. Weight training and Drylands are supported and encouraged as an adjunct to each swimmer's training.



  • Swimmers are not allowed to assume they can automatically change groups.
  • Swimmers are expected to be at practice 10 minutes prior to practice start time, ready to go. Goggles, caps, etc. should already be on to start practice immediately.

  • Schedule is subject to change

    • Swimmers are to bring water bottles to practice. Hydration is essential during practice.

    • Gear can not be left at Cross Gates. All personal gear is to be taken home after practice.
