LEVEL REQUIREMENTS & DESCRIPTIONS

STORMS - beginner swimmers w/ Coach Cathy | 5:30 - 6:30 pm - MON-THURS

To be a Storm, swimmers must be able to meet the following requirements:

  • Prior learn-to-swim classes and/or pre-team instruction experience
  • Ability to swim 2 laps (50 yards) freestyle without stopping
  • Idenify and execute attempts at butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke
  • Ability to follow safety rules and execute coach instruction
  • Possess a genuine love of the water and a personal desire to excel in the sport

In Storms, coaching is focused on introducing kids to competitive swim fundamentals while slowly building endurance and having fun. Stroke drills are coached repetitively to instill good habits on mechanics, breath, and timing. Starts, finishes, turns, and streamlines are reinforced daily. And there is ALOT of kicking exercises! To measure progress week to week, “benchmark races” conclude most practices. This is a rewarding introduction to competition readiness and a chance for swimmers to apply drills and be fulfilled with a sense of achievement as their progress is tracked and shared by coaches.

TORNADOES - intermediate swimmers W/ Coach Cheryl5:30 - 7:00pm - MON - FRI

It is the goal of the Typhoons to offer ability-specific training that personally challenges each individual and developes them to the best of THEIR abilities (physical, mental and emotional). UTSC encourages parents not to focus so much on level-titles or accelered promotions, but morseo upon safe and smart progress which promotes and sustains long-term athletic success.
