Swim Groups

The Dedham Health Hydras here offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Dedham Health Hydras to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Bronze Group

The Bronze group is the introductory training group to Dedham Health Hydras Swim Club.  Swimmers participating in this group must be able to complete at least 25 yards of freestyle, backstroke, and have a working knowledge of Breast Stroke and Butterfly.  At this level swimmers MUST HAVE THE CAPACITY TO LISTEN AND PERFORM IN A GROUP SETTING.  Only one practice is required (two to three is recommended).  Practices are one hour in duration.

Silver Group

The silver group serves primarily as the intermediate training group.  Swimmers must be able to perform at least 100 yards of each competitive stroke demonstrating proper alignment and body position for the long access strokes  (freestyle and backstroke) and proficient performance in the short access strokes  and (breast stroke  and butterfly.) Two practices are required (three to four recommended)

Gold Group

The gold group represents the most advanced group in our training program.   Swimmers are typically 11-12 years of age and have dedicated swimming as a primary extra-curricular activity.  Swimmers must be able to complete 100 yards of each competitive stroke, as well as the 200 yard IM and a 500 yard Freestyle.  Swim sets are more advanced and basic anaerobic work will be introduced to older swimmers training in this group, although stroke and aerobic development will serve as the primary emphasis.  Practices for this group are 1.5 hours in duration, and swimmers should commit a minimum of 2 times per week (3 - 4 is recommend)

Pre Senior Group

Minimum age for entry into this group is 11 years old. Athletes entering this group must display a desire to begin training on a more committed basis. Competition at swim meets is expected in this group. Training takes precedence over technique work for the first time in the athlete’s development. Athletes in this group train for the 200 Individual Medley and 500 Freestyles. Practices for this group are 1.5 hours in duration, and swimmers should commit a minimum of 3 times per week (4 - 5 is recommend)
