Swim-A-Thon 2019

Greetings to all Chinook fans - It’s time to kick off our annual Swim-A-Thon!

The Swim-a-Thon is Chinook's one and only fundraiser each year.  The majority of the funds raised stay with Chinook (95%), while 5% goes to USA Swimming to support national swimming initiatives.

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, February 2, and Saturday, March 16.

Chinook has done an awesome job with the Swim-a-Thon over the years. We need everyone's involvement and participation to make this year's another success.  Last year we raised over $20,000 for the club, which is a very significant contribution to the club’s finances.  This helps to keep the training fees as low as possible.

While we ask all of our swimmers to participate in the Swim-A-Thon, a swimmer can opt-out and will not be reimbursed their $200 non-participation fee.  The non-participation fee was paid at the time of registration.  For those swimmers that want to participate in the Swim-A-Thon, keep your coaches informed.  You can even have the coaches mail your letters.  Once participation has been confirmed, then the coaches will inform the Treasurer to deduct the participation fee from your next invoice.

The Chinook Swim-A-Thon has two parts:

Part I: Letter-Writing Campaign – Saturday, February 2
Chinook hosts a letter-writing party to kick off the Swim-A-Thon. There are two letter-writing parties to be held on Saturday, February 2.

Swimmers gather at Newport Hills to write letters to those they deem appropriate to request sponsorship.  Addresses could include family, friends, and professionals (e.g. dentists, doctors).  Swimming is a very positive activity for our children and most people and businesses like to show their support for the sport.

The letter writing is easy - You bring a list of names and addresses that you will put on the letters and Chinook provides the rest (envelopes, letters, pens, postage).  We will also have snacks and raffle some prizes.

The letter writing party is fun and I encourage everyone to participate.

9:00AM-12:30PM   All groups- drop in when you can between these times
**Remember to bring your list of addresses and/or mailing labels!**

Part II: Swimming the Swim-A-Thon – Saturday, March 16
The second part of the Swim-a-Thon involves the actual swimming part!  Everybody (even the Red group) is required to participate in this part of the event, regardless if you participated in the letter-writing campaign.
