2021 Season Practice Schedule and Groups

Practice Schedule: In previous years we had a flexible range of how many swimmer we could allow into each group. Due to COVID safety precautions, we have a firm limit to the number of swimmers we can have in a lane. This makes it impossible to optimize a practice schedule without first knowing hwo many swimmers we have at different levels. Until we get a solid idea of the number of swimmers we have at each level, the best we can do is narrow down a window of time that your swimmer will likely be practicing.

Emerald Between 5:30-6:30pm Minimum of 3 practices per week
Ruby Between 4:30 and 6:30pm Minimum of 3 practices per week
Sapphire Between 4:30 and 6:30pm Minimum of 4 practices per week
Turquoise Between 4:15 and 6:30pm 5+ Practices per week
Senior Tentatively 6:30-8pm 5+ Practices per week
Red 6:30-8pm most days 5+ Practices per week
Black Tentatively 4:00-5:30pm 5+ practices per week

Emerald: Emerald is our standard 8&U group, focusing mostly on improving technique in freestyle and backstroke, learning some basics of butterfly and breaststroke, and having fun. Swimmers must be able to comfortably complete 25 yards in any manner before joining. Practice is offered MWF. Swimmers at this level should attend 2 to 3 practices per week.

Ruby: Ruby Group is for the typical 9-11 year old swimmer (1 to 3 years of competitive experience). Swimmers will continue to improve their freestyle and backstroke, and spend much more time developing their breaststroke, butterfly, turns, and conditioning. Practice is offered MWF, and swimmers should try to make 2 or 3 practices per week. Swimmers in this group should be able to swim a 100y freestyle at decent speed and without stopping. Swimmers should know or be able to demonstrate some skill with fly or breast before joining this group.

Sapphire: Sapphire Group is geared towards the average 11-14 year old (2 to 5 years of experience). This group is for swimmers that can legally swim all four strokes. Technique will continue to be refined and more intensity will be added to their training. Practice is offered 5 days per week. Swimmers should try to attend four practices per week.

Turquoise: Turquoise is an advanced group for year-round swimmers age 9 to 11. Swimmers must meet certain speed and technique requirements and prove their commitment over several seasons before being invited into this group. Training will focus on establishing a solid mental, physical, and technical foundation to prepare these athletes for long term success in the sport of swimming.

Senior: Senior Group is our standard group for high school age swimmers. Practice will be offered 7+ times per week, including morning and Saturday practices. Regular attendance is expected at this level.

Black/Red Group: Black & Red Groups is for our most committed senior swimmers with a goal of qualifying and preparing for meets outside of Arizona. Practice will be offered 7+ times per week. The Head Coach will speak to eligible swimmers that meet the attendance and speed requirements.
