Thank You: Thanks to everyone who donated a snack and / or their time to the reception we had for Coach Andy and his wife Regan last week. The hospitality was appreciated, and a good time was had by all! Novice Program: Our main recruiting effort is the Swim INDY Novice Program, which begins next week! Our fall Novice session starts Monday and runs through the week of November 13, with Novice groups being run at both Ben Davis and Brownsburg High Schools. Novice swimmers will practice twice per week, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., on Mondays and Wednesdays for the Brownsburg group, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the Ben Davis group. Informational and registration flyers on both programs have been distributed throughout both school systems, but word-of-mouth is also an effective recruiting tool. If you are aware of a prospective swimmer, please tell them about the above programs, and ask them to contact the club for more information. Novice Program Coaches: I have contacted several Swim INDY swimmers about serving as Novice group coaches. If you have agreed to serve as a coach, please see Coach Travis at practice ASAP, who would like to arrange an educational meeting with you all about the upcoming Novice session. Meet Signups: Online signups for our first two meets (the SSC "Swim Fest" on October 13-15 and the October 28 dual meet versus Avon) are now available at the club website. Meet information for the SSC meet is also available on the Indiana Swimming and Swim INDY website. Several details for the Avon meet are still tentative and will be announced ASAP. However, the meet will be held at Avon High School, and is open to all age groups. Online signup deadlines for the two meets are: SSC Invitational (September 26); Avon dual (October 25). Morning Practice: Just a reminder to all Senior and Senior Development swimmers that Saturday is our first morning practice of the season (8-10 a.m. at Brownsburg High School). These practices are typically challenging and are a great way to cap off a week of hard work and earn some much-needed rest over the remainder of the weekend. These practices are also part of an increasingly necessary commitment to training from our older swimmers, and an additional opportunity to move closer to your individual goals. Get some rest Friday night, swimmers, and I'll see you all Saturday morning! Long Course Prizes: Prizes for attendance and meet participation for the long course season are now available! Bethjean Crumly has been at practice Tuesday and Thursday of this week (Brownsburg) and will be at Tuesday and Thursday practice at Ben Davis next week for prize distribution. Again, a special thanks to Bethjean for tabulating all the attendance and meet participation figures and making this a special treat for our swimmers. If you miss Bethjean at practice and are unable to claim your prize, please let me know and we'll make the necessary arrangements. Team USA: Recently, United States Swimming announced the athletes that will represent the U.S. at next summer's World Championships, Pan American Games and World University Games and the roster for next summer's National Junior Team. In addition, United States Swimming will announce the 2008 Olympic team coaches tomorrow. Next summer's championships are the last major meets prior to selecting the Olympic team, and after tomorrow, we'll know the coaches who will lead our team in Beijing. Check out our national team rosters on www.swiminfo.com, and set your goals high Cyclones! These swimmers who will represent our country probably set high goals for themselves during their careers and are living proof that it never hurts to dream big. "If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment." |
