A pair of young local swimmers fared well at a provincial swim meet this past weekend.

The Airdrie Phoenix Swim Club is a relatively new team, swimming out of Genesis Place since September of last year.

Cochrane hosted the 2020 Winter Festival South on January 25 and 26. The meet allows swimmers to compete in their distict age groups.

Nine-year-old Ava Phillips and 10-year-old Hayleigh Haines of the Airdrie Phoenix Swim Club qualified for the swim meet and did their club proud.

Phillips made the top nine in six out of eight swims. She took home Gold in the 100 Individual Medley and Silver in the 100 Breaststroke.

Haines was in the top eight in all eight of her events, taking home Silver in 50 Breaststroke and Bronze in three events: 100 Individual Medley, 50 Backstroke, and 100 Backstroke.

Head Coach Lynne Driessen says she's proud of the young swimmers.

"Their dedication and commitment to hard work in the pool paid off for this dynamic duo at this meet," Driessen says.
