Head Swim Coach

The Addison Otters Swim Team (AOST) based in Bristol, VT is searching for a new head coach. We are a competitive swim team that focuses on providing instruction and training in ways that encourage and support all swimmers to achieve their highest potential. We are a team of 50+ swimmers age 5-18. Our season runs from the beginning of November through the beginning of March and practices are held during afterschool hours. We are looking for a fun and enthusiastic team leader who is able to establish excellent coaching relationships with team athletes and serve as a strong role model. Successful candidates will have strong organizational and leadership skills, and experience as either a competitive swimmer, swim coach, or swim instructor. Final candidate must pass the USA Swimming background check. Some travel and weekend availability are necessary.

Specific team practice schedules, age groupings, meet attendance, etc. will be established in coordination with the coaching staff, AOST Board, and community needs.    

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and managing a competitive swim team in an efficient and fun manner
  • Training and tracking swimmer performance to improve technical swimming techniques through pool and dry land practices
  • Caring for the welfare and progress of every swimmer on the team
  • Supporting swimmers in learning strong self-discipline skills and sportsmanship including discipline, responsibility and independence
  • Preparing for and attending daily practice sessions and weekend swim meets
  • Maintaining proper USA Swimming and Local Swim Club requirements and certifications including current lifeguard certification
  • Working with parent volunteers to effectively operate team events 
  • Communicating regularly and working cooperatively with AOST Board of Directors

Assistant Swim Coach

The assistant swim coach will work under the supervision of the head coach to prepare swimmers to join a competitive swim team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and supervising swim practice for kindergarten through grade 5 swimmers
  • Developing strong confident swimmers 
  • Explaining and evaluating efficient stroke technique and skill improvement
  • Monitoring swimmer safety and behavior while promoting an accepting and supportive environment 
  • Coaching at swim meets as directed by the Head Coach

Qualifications:

  • Prior coaching and/or swimming experience
  • Ability to work with a variety of ages and levels of swimmers
  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Hold or be willing to attain the appropriate coaching certifications for USA swimming including CPR/First aid and either a lifeguard or safety training for coach’s certification.
  • Must pass a background check
