21-22 SACAC Coaches' Message #8

Lou Williams

Good morning SACAC Swimming and Diving families!

What a weekend!

Our SACAC USA swimmers competed on Friday night and Sunday at a USA meet hosted by the West Shore YMCA in Mechanicsburg, and our SACAC SAL swimming and diving teams had successful first dual meets of the SAL season on Friday night and Saturday.
Results from all competitions should be up under the “Meet Results” tab of the SACAC website today.

We aren’t submitting dual meet scores to the SAL this season, but I can say that it looks like our girls’ team was victorious at home and our boys’ team lost at Springfield. More importantly, our athletes got the chance to compete; some for the very first time and some for the first time in a long time.

I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to all of the parents who stepped up to make this weekend’s activities happen. I never lose sight of how many of us it takes to pull these events off and it seems pandemic issues/concerns will require us to be ready to pivot at any time.

This coming weekend our divers will compete against Upper Dublin on Friday night, our SAL swimmers will take on Methacton Aquatic Club on Saturday (arrival, warmup times and spectator policies below) and we’ve got 37 swimmers entered in the North Penn Trophy Meet on Sunday. Please take a look at the Trophy meet info email sent out this am. It looks like the meet is going to be a late one for the older kids on Sunday evening.

Dual meets also serve as a great way for our coaching staff to evaluate where we are at with the kids’ training. We did see a lot of fast times but there’s a lot to do in the way of racing skills like starts, turns and finishes. If you want to be a part of that process, feel free to pull up some Olympic swimming highlights on YouTube and encourage the kids to watch them. Kids have more resources to watch great swimming than ever before and watching great swimming is an important part of the process, especially for a visual learner like me.

Quite a few bullet points this week, please read carefully…

SACAC team suits and caps
Unfortunately, our SACAC team suits and caps have not arrived yet. The swimming equipment industry is being held up, like other businesses, by supply chain issues. We certainly aren’t the only team dealing with these delays.
We are in constant contact with our vendor and will communicate arrival dates and pickup info ASAP.
For the time being, swimmers and divers should just wear whatever suits and caps they have for competitions.

SACAC Family Folders
Each SACAC family does have a folder inside the boxes in the SAHS pool where awards, equipment and other items will be placed for pick-up. There isn’t much in there now, but know that if you need to pick-up items we will often put them there.
When we start having more to pick-up I’ll roll the mailboxes into the hallway for pickup during practice.

Dual Meet Requests
Now that we are in the midst of the competition season, it’s important to know that when RSVP’ing your kid for dual meets, you have the ability to make event requests.
Because we are not keeping score this season my job of creating a lineup to “win” a meet is less important and I can honor more requests. Although I reserve the right to put kids in whatever events our coaches feel is appropriate.
When committing your athlete, select the “yes, NAME will attend this event” from the drop down and then place event requests in the notes.
If you’ve already RSVP’d for an event you can update that RSVP and add requests up until the RSVP deadline, which is Tuesday at midnight of the meet week.

MAC Spectator Policy
One spectator per swimmer is permitted during a MAC swim meet. We are asking that all spectators sit in the balcony during their swimmer's events only. We have rented the MHS cafeteria for all spectators to remain in between their swimmer's races. We will have a volunteer announcing events to give spectators the opportunity to rotate in and out of the balcony. Please do not park yourself in the balcony. No siblings are permitted at this time. Masks are to be worn at all times while in the Methacton High School.
Swimmer MASK Policy: Please make sure all swimmers have a plastic bag labeled with their name to place their mask in while swimming.  Please make sure you send extra masks with your child.  All swimmers are to wear a mask at all times other than when they are swimming.

WSY Thanksgiving meet Awards
Awards for the 12-under participants of this past weekend’s WSY Thanksgiving Invite will be in swimmers folders at the pool this evening. Please remember that only 12-unders received awards for this meet.

NP Trophy meet this weekend
37 of our SAL swimmers will be competing at the North Penn Trophy Meet on Sunday. I will send out specific warm-up time, arrival time and meet info for our participating swimmers on Friday.

Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found at the SAHS pool is growing rapidly. If your athlete has lost an item in the last week or two feel free to stop at the pool and ask to go through the pile. Lost and Found items that remain at the end of the season will be thrown out or donated.

I’m happy to answer any questions/concerns in person outside of the SAHS pool during the first few weeks or via email at [email protected].
Please feel free to shoot me an email or ask to speak to me at the pool.
