2019 Cardiac Classic Race & Schenectady-Saratoga Swim Club

The Tradition Continues!

Good Afternoon Sharks.  It’s already that time of year again – Cardiac Classic time.  This partnership with the Foundation for Ellis Medicine has been a very important event for The Sharks and for the community, and it’s time to start planning the prep.

The Cardiac Classic is a long-time Schenectady tradition, which includes a 5K Road Race, Wellness Walk and Children’s Fun Run.  It takes place in Schenectady’s Central Park on Thanksgiving morning, November 28th. This race provides a great opportunity for community service on a day when it’s most appropriate. The Thanksgiving morning race has been a great way to start our Thanksgiving for years.

In return for financial remuneration consistent with the profit we make running a swim meet, we have committed to provide volunteer labor which includes preparing race packets for each participant (folding shirts and inserting into bags with other race-day necessities), staffing packet pick-up and walk-in registration, and providing help on the day of the race in the form of course marshals, workers, etc.

This Thanksgiving morning tradition is a fun, healthy, uplifting community event that is attended by families from all over the Capital Region. Volunteers should expect to be finished by about 10:30am. We’d like any athletes who are in town to come join in to help out.  Feel free to bring family and friends to help you volunteer, or to run the race!

The prep begins the week of November 4th.  T-shirt-folding sessions are scheduled at Burnt Hills in the cafeteria during practice.  Parents: please stay on November 4th and November 5th and share your shirt-folding expertise while your swimmers are at practice.    We will schedule another session on Saturday November 9th, if needed.  The more help we have, the easier it is.

Then we will roll right into Packet Preparation on November 11th at Ellis Hospital’s McClellan Street campus just a few minutes away from Union College during practice times.  More information about Packet Prep will be coming in a couple of weeks.

In addition, we will be organizing and staffing packet-pick-up at the Ellis Hospital’s McClellan Street Campus on Sunday, 11/24 and Wednesday, 11/27.

Information regarding t-shirt folding sessions, race packet preparation sessions and Cardiac Classic job-sign-ups will be posted on SSC’s website soon and will be sent by email.
