Central Area Swimming is one of four areas designated to represent Alaska Swimming teams/clubs; an organization run under the USA Swimming national program.  Central Area teams/clubs are comprised of teams from Anchorage, Eagle River, Wasilla, Palmer, Valdez and Cordova.  As a non-profit organization, CAS supports competitive swimming by hosting meets, facilitating educational opportunities and providing scholarships.

Dan Fawcett was an integral part of the Central Area Swimming community, while much of his work was behind the scenes, his presence on deck was a mainstay. Dan was instrumental in securing the new scoreboard and timing system for Bartlett Pool, which as many of you know greatly benefits all Alaskan swimmers.

Dan was not only willing to support the swim community through his expertise but was eager to apply what he knew as a coach to this ‘new’ sport, swimming, that his son Conrad and ultimately daughter, Nora brought to him.  Dan was always focused on providing opportunities for all swimmers to gain and remain competitive with those in the lower 48, specifically long course/meter races.  He felt strongly in supporting ‘the next level’ of opportunity for our swimmers.

Dan was a proud graduate of Oregon State University and supporter of higher education.  It is natural that the Dan Fawcett Memorial Scholarship recognizes his passion for swimming and the continuation of learning through higher education.

Many thanks to Dan’s family; his wife, Jenny; son, Conrad and daughter, Nora; as well as his long-time friend and business partner, David Rand of ATS for establishing this fund for the benefit of our student athletes.  We are grateful for the opportunity to allow others to participate in supporting this scholarship fund.
