The initiative of JJSwims is to provide swim lesson grants to local non-profit organizations in the Greater Huntsville Area whose focus is to address the needs of under-resourced children.  Two years ago, our national organization implemented JJSwims after one of our very own children tragically died in a drowning accident. So many children are unfamiliar with swim safety and cannot swim. Therefore, they are at high risk for swimming accidents and drowning.


Did you know? 

  • Over 350 children die from unintentional drownings each summer.


  • About one in five people who die from drowning are children ages 14 and younger. 

  • Drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death for children ages 1-4. 

  • Swimming pool drowning deaths for under-resourced children ages 5-19 are 5.5 times higher than that of children with access to resources. 

  • For under-resourced children ages 10-12, the swimming death rate is a staggering ten times higher than the rate for children with access to resources.
