Info:  

  • Red Cross based swimming group lesson curriculum

  • Taught by certified, knowledgeable, and caring instructors

  • Student must be able to hold onto side of pool, pay attention in a group setting, and easily go to instructor for Level 1 – 5

  • No refunds after 2nd week of class.

  • No make-ups for personal missed classes. No guaranteed make-up for program cancellation due to weather, district or government.  

 

Session 1 Fall (Indoor MLHS Pool)

30 min AM sessions: 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, 10:30 (Parent Child 11:00am -11:30)

Dates: September 11th,  18th, 25th,  October 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th November 13th

 

Session 2 Winter (Indoor MLHS Pool)

30 minute AM sessions: 10, 10:30, 11, 11:30 (Parent Child 12:15pm - 12:45)

Dates:  January 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, February 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th  

 

Session 3 Spring (Indoor MLHS Pool) TENTATIVE

30 minute AM sessions: 10, 10:30, 11, 11:30 (Parent Child 12:15pm - 12:45)

March 19th, April 2nd, 9th, 23rd, 30th, May 7th, 14th, 21st

 

Summer Sessions: (Outdoor at Mt. Lebanon Rec Center) TENTATIVE

30 minute AM week-long sessions: 9:30, 10:00, 10:30

June 6th-16th Monday-Thursday

June 20th-30th Monday-Thursday

July 5th-14th Tuesday-Friday and Monday-Thursday due to July 4th

MLAC Learn to Swim program is broken into Levels.

Below is a description & the skills they focus on developing during the lessons

 

  • Parent & Child:  Orients young children to the water and prepares them for Learn to Swim Lessons with the Parent in the water with the child

    • Being comfortable in the water.​

    • Blowing bubbles.

    • Following instructor instructions.

  • Level 1 – Introduction to Water Skills:  Students will learn how to feel comfortable in the water & safely enjoy it.

    • Submerging head. Blowing bubbles.

    • Learning float on back & front. Rolling between the two.​

    • Alternating arm actions, alternating leg actions.

  • Level 2 – Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills:  Students will learn basic swimming skills.

    • ​Gliding while in front & back float positions.

    • Treading water. 

    • Combining arm & leg actions.

  • Level 3 – Stroke Development:  Additional guided practice will help students improve their skills.

    • ​Mastering front & back gliding with kicks.

    • Front crawl arms & simultaneous kicking.

    • Butterfly kick & motion. Back crawl. 

    • Rotary breathing.

  • Level 4 – Stroke Improvement:  Students will gain confidence, improve their stroke, and gain additional aquatic skills.

    • ​Streamline. Treading with proper techniques.

    • Front crawl, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Back crawl, Elementary backstroke.

  • Level 5 – Stroke Refinement:  Guidance allows students to refine their strokes and become more efficient swimmers.

    • ​Shallow dives from side. 

    • Flip turn while swimming on front & on back.

    • Stroke refinement.

 

Under construction:

Levels 1-2 will work with instructors who have a mask and a face shield on as they will be with your swimmer in the water and they will work 1:1 instructor: student and have the same instructor each week, the student will wear a mask until they get in the pool. Level 3 will go 1:2 and Level 4 will go 1:3 Level 5 as they should be able to swim completely on their own will run 1:4 with the instructor working from the side of the pool giving instruction much like our minnows precompetitive program.  Parent child will be small group 1:8.
