COACHES AND DIRECTORS
Jeff has been coaching at Moon since 2017. He has over 20 years of coaching experience that encompasses involvement with USA Swimming, Allegheny Mountain Swimming, Pennsylvania High School/Varsity and Middle School swimming, and collegiate level swim programs. Throughout his career, Jeff has achieved unprecedented levels of success over the years.
As an Assistant Head Coach for Women’s Swimming at the University of Pittsburgh, Jeff had swimmers represented and participated in 6 NCAA Championships, he had 1 NCAA Honorable Mention All-American, and 6 athletes place in the prestigious Varsity Walk. During his time at Pitt, Jeff was also the Head Coach for Team Pittsburgh Aquatics. Jeff produced eight swimmers that qualified in the National Age Group Top-16, 26 Eastern Zones All-Star Competitors, and he coached multiple P.I.A.A State Championship qualifiers and champions. While coaching at Oakland Catholic High School, Jeff produced two individual State Champions, 16 NISCA High School All-Americans, and the 1999 PIAA Class AA State Championship Team. Additionally, Jeff has coached at Junior Nationals and Sectionals, and had four Summer Super Sectional Team Champions. He has been coaching athletes at the summer Senior Nationals since 2002, and he has coached at the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Olympic Trials.
Jeff is strongly proficient in operating high-level swim meets. He operated as the Meet Director for all USA Swimming meets that ran at the University of Pitt, including the annual Christmas Meet – one of the largest Age Group meets in the country – and the 2011 USA Swimming Summer Speedo Champions Meet.
Jeff earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Carnegie Mellon University in 1994. Jeff resides in Moon Township, PA, and he has three sons and a daughter-in-law.
Todd has been at South Fayette for the last 4 years. He has over 30 years of experience as a head coach at the collegiate, high school, and USA Swimming club levels. Todd has served on the USA Swimming National Team staff for three years and has sent two athletes to the National Junior Team. More recently, Todd led the AMS Select Camp to the Olympic Training Center and he currently serves as Senior Chair for AMS.
Prior to his arrival with Steel City Aquatics, Todd coached a successful stint with the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins and the Hawken School in Cleveland. The Silver Dolphins rose to USA Swimming Silver Medal status under Todd’s leadership. The team produced one Olympic Trial qualifier and multiple scorers at the USA Swimming Open Water Nationals, short course Winter Junior Nationals, and long course Junior Nationals. His girls’ team at Hawken high school team won three team state titles, and the boy’s team won one state team title and two runner-up finishes in his three years in Ohio. His swimmers currently hold three state records from their performances at the Ohio High School State meet.
Todd had previous successful runs locally at both Peters Township and Fox Chapel, where he coached their club and high school teams. While with the Fox Chapel Killer Whales, his team won the Eastern Zone Sectional Meet and he had his first Olympic Trial qualifier in 2012. While coaching in Allegheny Mountain Swimming, Todd served as AMS Senior Vice Chairman, Head Coach of AMS All-Star Team, Head Coach of the Central Zone Select Camp, and Head Coach of AMS All-Star Team Camp at the Olympic Training Center.
Todd’s career began on the collegiate level where he served as the Assistant Head Coach at Kenyon College in 1988, where both genders won NCAA Division III titles. After one year at Kenyon, he was appointed Head Coach at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. In his thirteen years at Case, Todd produced two NCAA Division III National Champions, 44 All-Americans, and his teams were twice-recognized as achieving the highest GPAs in collegiate swimming.
His accolades include Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year honors and Ohio High School Coach of the Year. An accomplished competitive swimmer himself, Todd was a seven time All-American at Kenyon and a five-time National Champion in United States Masters Swimming.
Melissa is an alumnus and resident of Montour who has been with Steel City Aquatics for the last several years. She has over 25 years of extensive coaching experience, where she has helped produce National, Junior National, Pro Series, Futures, Sectionals, Zone qualifiers, and All-American swimmers. Her previous coaching stints include head coach positions with the Montour Marlins and Freedom Area Aqua Club, as well as an assistant coach for the Montour Marlins, West Allegheny Aqua Club, and Seneca Valley Aqua Club. More recently, Melissa was selected to coach the 2023 AMS All-Star team that competes in the Tri-State Cup.
Furthermore, Melissa has 15 years of varsity and middle school experience, operating in both Head and Assistant Head Coach positions. Melissa has helped lead these teams to AA WPIAL and WPIAL Runner-up team titles, and WPIAL and State individual champions.
Melissa began swimming at the age of five for the Robinson Rays summer swim team. Her love for swimming continued as she swam for the Montour Marlins and the Montour Varsity swim teams, where she achieved WPIAL and State qualifying times. She was recruited by Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Melissa has been married for over 30 years to her husband, Matt. They have four children who have enjoyed a passion for competitive swimming. Her daughter, Leah, swam for California University of PA. Melissa’s son, Jarod, swam for the University of Kentucky, her other son, Blaise, swam for Grove City College, and her youngest son, Bobby, is a current member of Steel City Aquatics.
Gianna has been coaching with Steel City Aquatics since 2020. In addition to coaching all levels of the program including the Masters program, Gianna has been twice-selected to coach the AMS Summer Zone team.
Prior to her arrival, Gianna spent
three seasons with the Division I University of Wisconsin –
Green Bay Phoenix Swimming and Diving teams. After two years as a
graduate assistant, Gianna was elevated to Assistant Coach. During
her time with the Phoenix, Gianna assisted in coaching several NCAA
Championship qualifiers, five new Horizon League Champions, and one
U.S. Olympic Trial qualifiers. Moreover, she helped oversee over 20
new program records and added numerous All-Time Top 10 Times to the
program history. At Green Bay, Gianna assisted the head coach in
all areas of the swim program, including recruiting, training, meet
preparation, seasonal and administrative planning, on-deck
coaching, and dryland practices. Gianna also directed the annual
swim camp and swim lesson programs at Green Bay.
Gianna previously coached for the South Fayette Aqua Club during
the summer seasons of 2018 and 2019. Her coaching experience first
began when she taught swimming skills, strokes, and water safety to
children during high school and college.
A previous swimmer herself, Gianna competed at the Division III level for Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA for four years. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Gianna earned her bachelor's degree from Saint Vincent College and master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay.

Stef returns to Steel City Aquatics after a two-year hiatus. She previously coached with Steel City during its inaugural season in 2020. Prior to our merger, Stef was an assistant coach with South Fayette Aqua Club for two years. During her time with South Fayette, Stef coached a variety of levels and abilities. She enjoys training athletes, writing workouts, providing constructive feedback to swimmers.
She graduated from Wheeling Jesuit University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary education and Special Education for grades K-Adult. While at Wheeling, Stef swam 4 years at the NCAA Division II level. Her accolades include women’s team ASC Conference Title Champions in 2014, two Scholar All-American Athlete Awards, and she earned CSCAA Team Scholar All-American Award. Prior to swimming in college, Stef attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School, where she swam co-op with Cornell High School.
Stef is a special education teacher for grades 3-5 at South Fayette Intermediate School.
Kate has been coaching at the Moon Site since attending Moon Area High School. As a student there, Kate gained experience working as an instructor for Moon’s Learn-2-Swim program. Throughout high school, Kate was also a lifeguard and swim instructor for Chanticleer Swim Club and Sewickley YMCA. Kate has worked as an assistant swim coach for Chanticleer swim team for the past three winning seasons. Upon graduating from Moon, Kate was elevated to an assistant coach for the club team. She enjoys working with children and teaching the younger swimmers in the Bronze group.
Kate began swimming for the Moon Area Middle School team, and continued swimming for the High School/Varsity team and Moon Aqua Club.
Kate is a 2019 graduate of the Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School’s University Scholars Program. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University – Beaver with a degree in Psychology.

Michael has been with Steel City Aquatics for two years. His coaching career first began through teaching swim lessons. He has coached swim lessons throughout his high school, collegiate, and post-collegiate years. In college, he spent additional time teaching lessons to more advanced swimmers. Moreover, he has taught swim lessons in the summer months at Settlers Cabin Wave Pool. In 2021, Michael coached as an assistant for the Montour Heights Country Club.
Michael started swimming in 6th grade for West Allegheny, where he continued to swim for the next 6 years. He then went on to swim for Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where he was named captain twice for the men's team. He was named an All-Conference Swimmer his junior year. During his last semester, he held an internship at the Lewis Fitness and Performance, where he coached numerous athletes in the weight room.
Michael graduated from Edinboro University with a Bachelor's in Exercise Science in 2021.

Merci has been with Steel City Aquatics for the last several years and she has an extensive background for swimming and coaching. She has spent time as a coach for Northgate Aquatics, where she was one of the founding coaches for the program and supervised the Masters swimming program at Northgate High School. She previously worked as a developmental and age-group coach with Team Pittsburgh Aquatics, and has coached High school swimming for the Beaver Area, Oakland, and Central Catholic for the last 16 years. She has coached numerous MAC, WPIAL, and P.I.A.A. State qualifying swimmers, who have achieved High School All-American status. At Oakland and Central Catholic, she has won a combined 10 WPIAL team Championships, and 8 P.I.A.A. State Team Championships with Oakland Catholic. She was the P.I.A.A. State Coach of the Year for Oakland Catholic in 2009 and 2010.
Merci is a member of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA), and a Level 3 Coach. She is an ASCA Certified Site supervisor for Swim America, where she has trained at the ASCA training facility in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She has been a program director for Swim America for 10 years, where she has offered coaching, swim instruction, and aquatics management to various pools around the Pittsburgh area.
When not coaching or instructing, Merci runs an aquatics management company, where she provides training in safety and staffing programs at numerous pools in the Pittsburgh area. She has been an American Red Cross Instructor for over 25 years, and she has instructed hundreds of lifeguards.
Merci works with our developmental programs at Steel City Aquatics. She has a passion for swimming and teaching water safety. Merci attended Median School of Health Careers & CCAC for Physical Therapy Asst., CAN, and Massage Therapy, and she has raised three happy children.

Steel City Aquatics is excited to welcome Meghan for the 2022-23 season!
Meghan’s coaching career first began through teaching swim lessons. She has taught and coached developmental swimmers and divers through her time at Robinson Township Pool and Montour High School. Moreover, Meghan possesses additional experience with maintaining pool operations and managing swim lesson groups.
A previous swimmer herself, Meghan swam for the Montour High School team and the Montour Marlins Aqua Club.
Jocelyn has been coaching at South Fayette since 2018. She enjoys sharing her passion for swimming with the younger swimmers.
Jocelyn is a graduate of Peters Township High School where she was a WPIAL Champion three years in a row and finished in the Top-6 at PIAA States in several freestyle events. She was a two-time All-American in the 200 freestyle. Jocelyn attended the University of Kentucky on a swimming scholarship, where she continued to specialize in the 200 and 500 freestyle. After her junior year, she transferred to Creighton University, where she earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy in 1996.
Jocelyn is a part-time pharmacist at RxPartners. She lives in South Fayette with her husband, Mark, and her two daughters, Carolyn and Katelyn who are both members of Steel City Aquatics.

Coach Emily has been an assistant coach with the Moon High School and Middle School teams for the past two seasons. She is a former conference record holder at the University of Richmond and is currently a nationally ranked masters swimmer. Her son Garrett swims on the Varsity team. Welcome Coach Emily!

Amy has been around swimming and diving for most of her life. She started swimming at age 5 and started diving at age 13. Amy competed at the local and state levels with Carlynton High School as well as at the Junior Olympic level with Pitt Aquatic Club. After a successful high school diving career, Amy went on to compete for the University of Pittsburgh from 1992-1996. Throughout college and graduate school, she coached swimming and diving lessons at Pitt. Amy then coached with the high school and age group teams at Seneca Valley School District for a year before getting a teaching job with Carlynton School District where she coached until 2003.
After taking some time off to raise three kids, Amy is back coaching the Beginner and Intermediate diving groups at Moon and South Fayette. She has a son and two daughters in the South Fayette School District. Her daughters Anna and Caroline both swim and dive for Steel City!
Marian has been coaching at Moon since 2011. She has coached all age groups and abilities, from developmental to elite level swimmers throughout the years. Marian’s experience includes positions as an assistant coach for the Moon Area High School/Varsity team, where she helped coach multiple qualifiers to the WPIAL Championship. Additionally, she served as an assistant to the Sewickley YMCA swim team and head coach for the Montour Heights Country Club’s swim program. Throughout her high school and college careers, Marian taught swim lessons at Moon Area High School, Carlynton Junior/ Senior High School, Montour Heights Country Club, and the Sewickley Valley YMCA.
Under Steel City Aquatics, Marian served as the Assistant Head Coach to the Moon site, coordinated new swimmer evaluations, and oversaw the Learn-2-Swim program. Marian has and continues to serve as the Masters Program coach. She has been an advocate for coaching adults of all ages and abilities to keep swimming, and she has built the program to be one of the most "coach-engaging" Masters program in the area. Marian is also an active, elected member of AMS Masters Swimming board of directors.
Marian attended Moon Area High and graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in Education. Marian and her husband Jon, recently welcomed their first son together.
