Razorback Aquatic Club HawgStart Swim School currently offers swim instruction at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale and Mount Sequoyah Center in Fayetteville.

HawgStart Overview

For those swimmers who are not quite ready for the competitive side of our program or just want to put an emphasis on fitness, the RAC HawgStart Swim School is the place for you.  We offer classes for swimmers age 3 and up.  HawgStart classes are geared for a wide range of abilities, from swimmers who have never been in the water before to our most advanced swimmers in HawgStart Level 4- Advanced Skills.  Our experienced staff will help your swimmer advance his or her swimming skills in a positive environment and, as with our competitive program, developing the fundamentals of proper technique is at the core of our teaching.

In order to maintain our instructor-to-swimmer ratio, swimmers will not be allowed to switch levels, unless space is available. Please make sure that your swimmer is registered at the correct level based on the description below.

HawgStart Level 1 - Water Comfort: Swimmers will be grouped into a 2:1 (student: instructor) ratio. This class is for beginners who may or may not have had previous swim lessons. Swimmers are not yet comfortable in the water. The swimmer may be anxious and does not submerge their head or face. Cannot swim independently. Usually ages 3-6 but not limited to this age.

HawgStart Level 2 - Water Independence Class: Swimmers will be grouped into a 2:1 (student: instructor) ratio. This class is for beginner swimmers who may or may not have had previous lessons but are comfortable in the water. To be ready for this class swimmers can independently back float. Swimmers must be able to submerge their face/head and move through the water either underwater or on top of the water without wearing a floatation device.

HawgStart Level 3 - Water Movement: Swimmers will be grouped into, no more than a 3:1 (student: instructor) ratio. This class is for swimmers who are comfortable in the water and swimming independently. To be ready for this class swimmers must be able to swim freestyle 10 - 15 feet with side breathing and backstroke two to three body lengths.

HawgStart Level 4 -Advanced Skills Class: Swimmers will be grouped into, no more than a 4:1 (student: instructor) ratio. This class is for swimmers who can swim freestyle with correct breathing as well as backstroke for at least 10 yards. This class will focus on learning all 4 competitive strokes of swim: freestyle (with an introduction to bilateral breathing), backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly; and an introduction to diving.

Parents will need to observe the lessons in one of the designated areas. Please note parents will not be allowed to remain on deck after checking your swimmer in with the manager on duty.

Registering:

The registration process is simple for both new and returning families.  You will get access to your own private account to view/edit your contact information and both current and previous class histories. Please use a regular PC or MAC computer to register as smartphones and tablets do not convey all the options necessary for the registration process to be completed.

Fees may be transferred and applied to another program within the same time frame if space permits. Please note any changes made to your registration will accrue a 10% administrative fee, and Director approval. Swim lesson registrations are non-refundable unless pre-approved by the Director.
