SCCS uses tiered swim groups to divide individual ability levels and to provide swimmers with goal oriented progression;

BRONZE SWIM GROUP:

This group has a basic to intermediate understanding of all four strokes.  These athletes will learn to improve their basic stroke technique and dives.

Qualifications – in order to swim in this group, the swimmer should;

  • Be able to swim 25m (one length of our pool) of Butterfly, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Freestyle legally
  • Dive into the pool from the side of the pool

Attendance – Swimmers are encouraged to attend all three of the weekly scheduled practices in order to learn the various skills and techniques. 

Equipment – reusable water bottle, kickboard, fins, snorkel, swim cap, and goggles.

 

SILVER SWIM GROUP:

This introductory level group will continue to develop their skills in stroke form and technique.  Here they will learn basic race plans and concepts like good sportsmanship to develop a sense of self. This group is typically for swimmers Ages 10 – 14 years old. Swimmers under 10 years old may join this group if they have qualifying B times (JO’s).

Qualifications – in order to swim in this group, the swimmer should;

  • Be able to perform all four stokes (Butterfly, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Freestyle) with legal turns
  • Dive into the pool from the block

Attendance - Swimmers are encouraged to attend all three of the weekly scheduled practices in order to learn the various skills and techniques. 

Equipment – reusable water bottle, kickboard, pull buoy, fins, snorkel, swim cap, and goggles. 

 

GOLD SWIM GROUP:

This group has an intermediate understanding of all four strokes.  These athletes will focus on stroke technique and endurance.  We will incorporate racing dives and turns and learn basic training fundamentals, such as reading a pace clock and training etiquette.  We will also work on listening skills and how to work with peers.

Under 10’s must have a qualifying A time (State) to join this group

Age 11 – 12 must have a qualifying B time (JO) to join this group

Age 13+ must have an intermediate understanding of all four strokes and be able to swim them legally. 

Qualifications – in order to swim in this group, the swimmer should;

  • Swimmer must be able to swim 50m of Freestyle on 1:00
  • Swimmer must be able to swim 50m of all strokes on 1:10

Attendance - Swimmers are encouraged to attend all four of the weekly scheduled practices in order to learn the various skills and techniques. Swimmers are encouraged to attend Dryland.

Equipment – reusable water bottle, fins, swim cap, goggles, pull buoy and snorkel. 

 

PRE-SENIOR SWIM GROUP:

A combined group of intermediate and advanced swimmers, who will continue to develop their skills in stroke form and technique, continue to build their kicking power, endurance and training etiquette.

Age 11 - 12 must have a qualifying A time (State) to join this group

Age 13+ must have a qualifying B time (JO) to join this group

Qualifications – in order to swim in this group, the swimmer should;

  • Swim 50 base, swimmer must be able to swim 6 x 50m of each stroke on :50
  • Swimmers MUST compete in Swim Meets

Attendance - Swimmers are encouraged to attend all five of the weekly scheduled practices in order to learn and improve the various skills and techniques. Swimmers are encouraged to attend Dryland.

Equipment – reusable water bottle, kickboard, fins, swim cap, goggles, pull buoy, hand paddles, D-Band or swim band, and snorkel.

 

SENIOR SWIM GROUP:

This group is for committed advanced competitive swimmers.

Age 13+ must have a qualifying A time (State) to join this group, or High School state qualifiers

Age 13-14 must have a qualifying A time (Age Group State) to join this group

Qualifications – in order to swim in this group, the swimmer should;

  • Know how to perform all four competitive strokes legally with streamline walls regularly past the backstroke flag.
  • Swim 50 meters Freestyle on :45
  • Swim 50 meter all strokes on :55
  • Swim 200 meter Freestyle on 3:00
  • Swim 200 meter all strokes on 3:30
  • Swimmers MUST compete in Swim Meets

Attendance – Training at this level is demanding. 100% attendance is expected, including two-a-days when applicable. Swimmers are strongly encouraged to attend Dryland.

Equipment- reusable water bottle, kickboard, fins, swim cap, goggles, pull buoy, D-Band or swim band, hand paddles, and snorkel.
