The Importance of Drills

Swimming drills - everyone hates them and no one seems to want to do them (I say that with love, guilty as charged). But we all know they can dramatically improve our strength and strokes in the water, especially freestyle. Here are ten freestyle drills we should all do more of.  -- Coach Mike

Dryland

This tip comes from US Masters Swimming and discusses dryland for swimmers. For those of you unfamiliar, dryland exercises for swimmers can help improve your technique and speed in the water! Check out this short article on why and how dryland can enhance your swimming!

This tip focuses on a bit of dryland work that could prepare you for success during your swim practice! Flexibility and mobility are keys to success when it comes to swimming. Often, when athletes hit a plateau or get stuck on a time, improving flexibility can help take them to the next level. Take a look at this short article on Three Yoga Poses to do Before a Masters Swimming Workout from US Masters Swimming! Nutrition and Food

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I have fond memories of Thanksgiving-day morning practices when I swam club (way back when). Really, Thanksgiving is a time to spend with friends and family, and I think that’s what I love most about it. All that said, I also really enjoy the feast that goes along with the day. This week’s tip comes from Swimming World Magazine and discusses the dilemma that comes after the big feast: The Thanksgiving Food Baby! Although it’s not so clearly stated in the article, the tip really is this: don’t let the holiday keep you away from a solid practice in the aftermath. Push through the challenges of the first set after the meal, and trust in the practice process. We are here to make you fitter, faster, and stronger.
