COVID-19 Information and Updates

August 15, 2020

Things are going to be a little different this season as we all deal with COVID-19 and its impact on swimming. We have lots of safety measures in place to help keep our athletes, families, and coaches safe. Thank you for your patience and flexibility!

You will notice changes to our structure this season. Here are some basic points on what to expect:

  • The swim team will use 6 lanes during practice. The remaining two lanes will be open for member lap swim.
  • We will be following the USA Swimming recommendations for lane spacing to maintain social distancing during practice.
  • Practice groups will be small and socially distanced. The 8 and under groups will have 2 swimmers per lane for a maximum of 12 swimmers per small group.  The 9-12 and 13+ groups will have 2-3 swimmers per lane for a maximum of 18 swimmers per small group. Diagrams depicting the socially distanced pool layouts with both 2 swimmers per lane and 3 swimmers per lane can be found in our Swimming Safely guide.
  • Parents are to remain off deck during practices. Parents may watch practice from the grass areas outside the pool fence. Parents should only enter the pool gates if absolutely necessary to tend to their swimmer.
  • Swimmers are required to wear masks when on deck (entering and exiting the facility). The swimmers will take their masks off prior to entering the water. Coaches will be required to wear masks until all the swimmers are in the water. Should a parent need to access the deck, he/she is required to wear a mask, also.
  • Swimmers will have assigned bag drop areas to hold their belongings during practice. These individual stations will be placed 6 feet apart from other swimmers. Swimmers must bring their own equipment to practice. This includes goggles! We will not allow sharing goggles from the lost and found.
  • Swimmers must bring a full water bottle to practice. Filling stations and cups will not be available.
  • Coaches will be sanitizing the bag drop areas, gates, toilets, etc. frequently.
  • All entry and exit for practices will happen through the south parking lot and south entry/exit gate to the pool. Coaches will open the gates for the swimmers to avoid multiple touches to the gate. Gates will lock once practice has begun.  No late entry to practice is allowed.
  • Locker rooms are reserved for toilet use only. No showering, changing, or congregating in the locker rooms.
  • Swimmers must stay home if they are sick!
If you are not comfortable with any of these regulations, and/or if you cannot abide by these rules, we please ask that you refrain from swimming with the team this season. This is our "new normal" for the time being, and we want to do our best to keep everyone safe and healthy as well as follow the rules of our facility. Thank you for your flexibility!

We are implementing as many precautions as possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during practices. In order to help mitigate the risk of contracting and/or spreading the virus, adherence to the following policies and procedures is required for all team members.
  • Swimmers cannot attend practice if any of the following are true:
    • They are sick or not feeling well
    • They have a fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, nausea or vomiting, or any other symptoms listed by the CDC
    • They have been exposed to anyone who has symptoms or has tested positive for COVID-19
    • Anyone in the household has symptoms or has tested positive for COVID-19
  • If a swimmer tests positive for COVID-19 and is symptomatic, they must remain out of practice for a minimum of 14 days from the start of the symptoms and until they have been symptom free for at least 72 hours.
  • If a swimmer tests positive for COVID-19 and is asymptomatic, they must remain out of practice for a minimum of 14 days after the positive test (assuming they remain symptom free).
  • If a swimmer has had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, they must remain out of practice for a minimum of 14 days from the last day of exposure, regardless of whether they test negative for COVID-19 themselves. Close contact is defined as less than 6 feet for more than 10 minutes.
  • If a swimmer has no known exposure to COVID-19 but has symptoms and tests negative for COVID-19, they can return to practice once they have been symptom free for at least 24 hours.
  • If a swimmer tests positive for COVID-19, the coaching staff must be notified immediately. Once the coaching staff is notified, an email correspondence will be sent to the entire team and the management at the Lodge at Ventana Canyon. The email will notify the recipients of the positive test result, and it will also provide the most recent dates the swimmer was at practice, but the identity of the swimmer will remain anonymous. Further, those in the same specific practice group as the swimmer who tested positive will receive a subsequent email notifying those individuals of the positive test result in their small group (again, the identity of the swimmer will remain anonymous).
  • If a swimmer tests positive for COVID-19, the coaching staff will work with that swimmer and family to help them recall if they have had close contact with any other swim team members in the preceding 14 days. If it has been determined that the swimmer who tested positive had close contact with any other swim team members, the coaching staff will then notify those exposed swim team members (contacts) of their potential exposure. These contacts will also be required to remain out of practice for 14 days after the last exposure. Again, close contact is defined as less than 6 feet for more than 10 minutes.
