Lauren Crisp Coach

Lauren has been involved in the sport of swimming as both an athlete and coach for 14 years. Born and raised in Victoria, she started swimming competitively for Pacific Coast Swimming in 2006.  She has just finished her first year at UVic studying elementary education and competing for the UVic Vikes swim team.  Lauren has coached and instructed with PCS and through the Red Cross at rec centres in Victoria.  Soon after Lauren started swimming, she discovered a love for the positive atmosphere and the energy that new and evolving swimmers bring to the pool deck.  She is very excited to be with the Oak Bay Orcas, and to help all our swimmers discover a mutual passion for the sport of swimming!

Rachael Newman Coach

Rachael spent the first 8 years of her life in Hong Kong and then her family returned to Victoria where she carried on with her love of swimming. She swam competitively for Pacific Coast Swimming for 8 years and then went on to swim for UVic for 3 more years. Her best strokes were butterfly and freestyle and in 2012 she qualified for Olympic trials. She graduated from UVic in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science majoring in biochemistry. She is presently working at the UVic-Genome BC Proteomics Centre. Rachael has been coaching for 10 years. She has coached for PCS, Cowichan-Valley Breakers, Pender Island Otters and she's been coaching with the Oak Bay Orcas since 2014. Apart from the swimming, one of her favourite memories of coaching with the Orcas was when they performed their Shrek air-band at the Campbell River swim meet. It was epic!  Welcome back Rachael!
