Kitimat Jan26-27 results

On January 26 and 27, 27 Terrace Bluebacks competed in Kitimat at the fifth annual Rio Tinto Northwest Invitational Swim meet. The Bluebacks placed third overall behind the Kitimat Marlins and the Prince Rupert Aquatic Club and ahead of the Bulkley Valley Otters.
 
Two Bluebacks won aggregate medals - Jake Kluss won bronze in the boys' 15 and over age division and Gabriel Ungehojer won Gold in the boys' 10 and under division. 'Someone else has gotta win - it isn't even fair!' Said Gabriel.
 
Every Blueback athlete either placed first, second or third or made a significant improvement to their best time in one of their seven events.
 
In the 10-and-under age division, Kenzie Boult won the 50 kick and achieved a 35-second best time in the 50 free,
 
Paige Constantinescu won the 25 back,
 
Jakob Coosemans placed second in the 50 breast and took 18 seconds off of his 100 back time,
 
Elena Kuirinlahti took 16 seconds off her best 100 free time,
 
Alistair McFetridge placed third in the 25 free and took 14 seconds off his 100 free time,
 
Thomas Sambo won the 25 back and placed second in the 25 free,
 
Maya Schmidt placed third in the 25 back and achieved a five second best time in her 100 free and an eight second best time in her 100 back,
 
Gabriel Ungehojer won the 50 fly, 100 breast, 100 free, 100 IM, 100 back and 50 free, with an eight second best time in the 50 fly and a seven second best time in the 100 breast,
 
Sequoia Wood placed third in the 25 free and 50 breast, the latter with a 15 second best time, and placed second in the 25 back,
 
Solstice Wood placed second in the 25 back and first in the 50 kick at his first swim meet,
 
In the 11-12 division, Cameron Constantinescu placed second in the 50 back,
 
Hayden Kohlman won the 25 free,
 
Carlee Metzger placed second in the 50 fly and 100 IM and achieved a five second best time in the 100 free,
 
Nevaeh Mumford placed third in the 50 fly and 100 IM and achieved a six second best time in the 100 breast,
 
Darien Sambo placed second in the 25 free,
 
Olvier Ungehojer placed third in the 50 and 100 breast and second in the 200 breast and achieved a six second best time in the 50 fly.
 
In the 13-14 division, Laura Billson placed second in the 100 back and 200 free, won the 400 free, and achieved a six second best time in the 100 free,
 
Sophie Coosemans placed second in the 100 IM,
 
Camryn Costain placed third in the 50 fly, 100 breast and 100 free, second in the 50 breast, and first in the 100 IM, and took five seconds off her best 100 breast time,
 
Abbygale Giles placed third in the 50 breast and achieved an 18 second best time in the 100 breast,
 
Jake Kluss placed third in the 100 breast, 100 free, 200 free and 50 free and won the 400 free and 100 back, achieving a minute-and-26-second best time in the 400 free and a 14-second best time in the 100 breast,
 
Emma Kuirinlahti placed third in the 200 free, second in the 400 free and won the 100 back,
 
Amy Mckay achieved a ten second best time in her 100 breast.
 
In the 15 and over division,
 
Erin Billson placed third in the 200 free with a 37-second best time, placed second in the 100 breast and won the 400 free,
 
Colby Bowles placed second in the 100 back the 400 free, the latter with a five second best time,
 
Nolen Knox placed third in the 200 free and second in the 50 fly, 100 free and 200 IM.
 
The Bluebacks look forward to more best times and competition at their next meet, hosted by the Bulkley Valley Otters in Smithers on February 29-March 1.
