2021 Winter Junior Nationals Recap

Jamie Brennan

This was Jamie's second Junior Nationals.  Her first was just before COVID hit, and came down with a nasty flu while we were in Seattle.  Here we are 1.5 years later, and trying to get ourselves set up for some fast racing.  She was under the weather for KP, but bounced back and had some gutsy efforts in Texas. Jamie has National Cuts and International Team Trials Cuts.  Pretty impressive stuff for this young lady.  I am looking forward to the next few months leading into Spring Sectionals (our travel meet to Carlsbad) where we can really pound on some folks.

200 IM - "B" final swim 2:00.21 just off her best time from Kevin Perry 3 weeks earlier where she went under 2:00 for the first time and was the first female under 2:00 in this event.  Way to go Jamie!

50 Free - 23.56 On her best.

100 Free - 50.00 best time, but was so fast off the blocks, she deeked.

200 Free - 1:50.36 great swim, but not quite fast enough to grab a second swim

Bella Brito

This was Bella's first Jr Nationals and she handled the pressure wonderfully. (I will let her explain the ready room experience).  Bella had second swims in all of her races and swam faster at night in all but one.  Made the big girl final in the 100 Breast and broke the Southern California Swimming Record for 13/14 Girls and made Summer Nationals!!!!  What a great start, congrats!

200 IM- "B" Final swim of 1:58.95  Second girl on BCS to go under 2:00 in the 2IM.  Just off SCS record for 13/14 age group.

50 Free - Won her swim-off to get into the "C" Final and landed on her best 22.88

100 Free - "B" final 10th place and went under :50 for the first time 49.79

100 Breast -  Made the "A" final and went 1:00.62 and broke the SCS record and added a Summer National Cut.

Zack Yakubik

Zack had some season best swims, not exactly where he wanted to be at this point, but we are getting back to work and shooting for Spring Sectionals. Walls are the nemesis and must be mastered in order to provide drop opportunities. To the drawing board.  All in all, strong swims with some good take-a-ways.

200 Free - 1:42.4 on his best

500 Free -  4:32.84 season best so far, looking for mid 20's by March.

100 Back - 51.28 Just off his best SC time
200 Back - 1:51.73  Just off of his best SC time
