Swim Coach needed for  September 2020 – April 2021
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday evenings

The Calgary Barracuda Swim Club is looking for an Assistant Coach - an enthusiastic, dedicated and self-motivated individual who has knowledge of the four competitive strokes, swim techniques, dives and turns and experience in swim instruction.

The Calgary Barracudas are a recreational, semi-competitive swim club for swimmers 5 to 18 years of age. Swimmers practice Monday, Tuesday & Thursday evenings, September through April, at the Seton YMCA pool in Calgary deep south. This is an excellent part-time opportunity to develop leadership and coaching skills in a positive environment where the focus is on swimmer skill development and having fun.

Qualifications:

  • Swim instructor or coaching certifications,
  • Past experience in coaching or instruction,
  • Enthusiasm for working with young people, and
  • Background in competitive swimming is an asset

Duties:

  • Work with the Head Coach, coaching various ages and levels of swimmers
  • Establish respectful and effective working relationships with swimmers and parents
  • Maintain discipline and structure, while designing drills and activities that are fun for youth
  • Ensure safety of all swimmers in the pool and on deck
  • Attend each swim session, approximately 2 hours (7:15-9:15pm), fully prepared and organized
  • Attend the swim meets
  • Evaluate swimmers and choose candidates for year-end awards & present these
  • Attend team year-end party.
  • Comply with and observe all COVID-19 related rules imposed by government, the SETON facility, and the club.

All practices are held at SETON YMCA: 4995 Market Street SE, Calgary, AB

Our season is to start on September 21st. Winter break from Dec 6 2020 to Jan 11, 2021. Last day of the season: April 29th, 2021. We plan to host one swim meet in January, 2021. And may be invited to 1, 2 or 3 swim meets hosted by others.
Each coach need not be able to coach all 3 days. You may also coach only 1 hour per day, instead of 2.  Please advise of your availability and preference.

Compensation will be discussed with short-listed candidates

 

Other Positions

Barracuda Swim Club is a registered non-profit, which is run and operated through volunteers which are sourced from the families of the swimmers in the Club. Becuase of this, we usually do not have paid positions to offer.
