Jaelyn Cornwell - Assistant Coach (Senior, PreSenior, Navy, White, Mini)

Jaelyn grew up in Chico, swimming for the Chico Aquajets alongside her two siblings and friends for about 13 years. She now swims with the Chico Aquajets morning Masters team. At the age of 13 she began coaching the Mini Jets, and went on to continue coaching the Navy, White, and Mini Jet groups. She is currently enrolled as a full time student at CSU, Chico. Working towards a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology, with hopes to be a Physical Education teacher for adapted students. Jaelyn’s passion for coaching has grown over these past years and she hopes to continue to inspire swimmers just as much as her coaches inspired her. Jaelyn loves to spend her free time swimming and doing anything outdoors with her dogs, family, and friends.

 

Jonathan Diaz - Assistant Coach

Jonathan grew up in Orange County and started swimming at the age of 14 for his local high school and spent 2.5 years coaching at a local swim school. He is now a first generation college student at Chico State and is studying to complete his Psychology degree. His favorite part about coaching is always seeing his students get better and improve their skills and speed. Jonathan’s favorite past times are playing basketball and swimming!

 

Andrew Hasek – Assistant Coach

Swimming has been a large part of Andrew’s life. He was a competitive swimmer for 15 years. The first eight years were with the Paradise Piranhas, and he finished his last 4 years of age group swimming with the Aquajets. Before “retiring” from the sport he had the pleasure of swimming for 3 years at UC Santa Cruz. Starting in 2021 he became the head coach for the Paradise Piranhas where he found a passion for coaching, and is excited to continue coaching here with CAJ. Outside of the swim world, Andrew likes staying active by training and participating in triathlons. He also enjoys reading and going out in nature to see the sights.

 

Ava MacKay - Assistant Coach

Ava grew up in Lafayette CA, where she found her love for the sport of swimming at around 3 years old. She has been with a small recreational swim team called Sun Valley, starting off as a mini ray, building into a junior coach, and finally reached an assistant coach position. Ava's favorite part about coaching is helping out individuals with proper technical problems. She strives to make swimming as fun as possible and encourages friendships through all age groups. Ava currently attends California State University, Chico, and is a junior while she is majoring in Business Administration for Human Resources. She is super excited to be a part of the Aquajets family and is ready to help out! 

 

Emma Alvarez - Mini Jets Assistant Coach

Emma has grown up swimming on the Aquajets, and is so exited she now gets to help out with coaching Mini Jets. In the past she tried other sports, but nothing could compare to her love for swimming. Her favorite part about swimming is how much fun Emma and her teammates have together. Currently Emma is a senior at Chico High School and swims in the Senior group on Aqua Jets. In her free time she enjoys spending time with friends and family, and of course, being in the pool!

 

Claire Anderson - Mini Jets Assistant Coach

Claire has been swimming for the Chico Aquajets since 2013. She started as a White group swimmer and has swam year-round, moving her way up to the Senior group. Claire will be a high school sophomore at Chico High where she swims on the high school team and plays in the Marching Band. Claire is excited to start her first summer coaching the MiniJets. She loves kids and wants to give back to a team that has given her so much.
