She was born in Anchorage, Alaska but grew up in South San Francisco. Her dad started teaching her how to swim when she was just three months old. Shelbi has been a water baby ever since! She started swimming competitively at eight years old and then quit swimming in middle school to try basketball and volleyball. Shelbi was later diagnosed with Scoliosis and started swimming again to help strengthen her back keeping her away from major surgery. Through this tough time in her life she found her love for swimming again and never looked back. Shelbi swam through the beginning of her Junior year in college and was a Butterflier and IMer. She had to retire early due to a broken wrist but finished as an All-American for College of San Mateo 2011 and 2012.

Shelbi’s coaching career started when she was 17. She has coached Competitively for multiple USA Swim teams including; South San Francisco Aquatics Club, Sunnyvale Swimming, Santa Clara Swim Club, and Quicksliver Swimming. She has diverse exposure both inside and outside of the pool being a part of so many great teams and brings that knowledge on deck. She loves coaching Age Groupers and Master Swimmers. Her goal is to share the same love and passion for swimming. She wants to help swimmers achieve their goals both inside and outside of the water regardless of their age, ability or talent level by coaching using multiple learning styles.

She graduated with a B.A in Humanities from SJSU in 2014 and is currently finishing up her M.A. in Athletic Administration and Coaching. Shelbi has a two-year-old Catahoula dog named Kenai, and they love going to the beach their free time. She likes to craft and work on cars. She is also a huge Dallas Cowboy and San Jose Shark fan.
